Insecurity: UI Students Write Makinde, Demand 2 Things Or Go On Protest

The umbrella body of entire students in University of Ibadan have written a letter to Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde calling his attention to insecurity of lives and properties in the Agbowo community where larger percentage of students reside.

The Students' Union body in a letter signed by its President, Adewole Yinka and General Secretary, Bamidele Taiwo Paul informed the Governor Makinde as Chief Security Officer of the State that a large number of their colleagues were victims of attacks which have resulted in injuries and deaths.

The Students' Union body lamented that a lot of their colleagues have been involved in accident in front of UI gate due to lack of speed breakers and street lights.

The Students' Union body demands that governor should apologize to all victms of various attacks and convey emergency meeting with a security agencies in Oyo State.
The Students' Union body also demanded that speed breakers and traffic lights should be installed in front of University of Ibadan main gate and other critical areas.

The students said they will have no choice than to embark on protest if the governor didn't address the issue on time.

Why is it that Nigerian politicians would never act on an issue unless the masses shout into their ears? But when it's campaign time, they would visit even the most busy and remote community, to seek for votes. That time, they would never mind if the road to the community is having a pothole deeper than the Atlantic Ocean. They still go there.

As far as am concerned

Makinde has failed in terms of Security. If he can't secure Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state then he has truly failed as a person. GSM my foot!!

They better learn how to pass messages without threat before they will be reminded that they are writing to constituted authority.

Thank you! They are just dumbfucks! Push it to your school authority and the school can now beckon on the government. The tone is their letter reeks of bad mannerism. They probably forgot that it’s a federal university. Well, I hope the governor gets to hear about their plight and assist them.

If I may ask, where do you live?? I want to know so I would know the kind of response to give you because you don’t make inferences from reported instances online if you don’t know anything about the place!

The letter addresses concerns over security of students living off campus. In recent times, some students have been killed in that Agbowo area.
Nothing like bad mannerism in asking am elected official to do his damn job. They are not begging him, he should do the needful.
Re: Insecurity: UI Students Write Makinde, Demand Improved Security For Students by othermen:
I am so much glad at the courage (not exactly, selective) of the students union despite continuous assault on its mandate and burden. It would seem the authorities in charge just wants to breed complacent folks, but their is no greater threat to our society than the lack of courage in our intellectuals, in our youths.

I commend the union, the letter does not pander and it shouldn’t pander when their have been loss of lives or ability.

Sadly, the school authorities don’t care much, they wouldn’t even use their offices to employ the government to its primary responsibility. In their ordinary , they have expelled students activists asking questions.

I think the wording of the letter is great. It would have been greater, if the inclination of the school authority to cowardice and breeding cowardice is mentioned or the school's futile effort to reach the government to act …

Don't feel it should be more polite, think of the grievances and the loss of parents due to lack of action on the government part for years, despite beseeching or appealing, think of those students without a limb now. If we confront our representatives and governments with their responsibilities, perhaps they would act.

We shouldn't just pray for them, we should remind them, and also notify them that the consequences of their inaction or irresponsibilities is very handy and ready to be served.
