Nigeria is a strange land. Where I live if the deceased wife/partner has no means of income, a certain percentage of the late spouse/partner pension will be paid to the survival partner/spouse until death. Just imagine if op's was a stay at home mom and never worked in the system and depends on the late husband pensions? 3 Likes |

Point of correction There is nothing like "next of kin" in Nigerian law. With regards to entitlements to the estate or pension of a deceased .This comes either via a WILL or being DESIGNATED as a BENEFICIARY to pensions/related funds in writing by the deceased People often make this mistake about "next of kin" in Nigeria but is is baseless( I welcome any disagreement with evidence). A next of kin is just a point of contact in case of emergencies |

Wow retired 2014 and already got his gratuity. My mom retired in 2007 after 35 years of service still haven't been paid gratuity. They owe them up to two years pension. I don't think there's much you can do since your dad already got paid his gratuity. |

Ninobraw: Sorry about this but what if I told you my DAD GOT RETIRED FROM NIPOST SINCE 1997 [It’s been 25years now] AND TILL NOW, HE HASN’T BEING PAID HIS GRATUITY NOR PENSION. He tells me different stories about them being called that the payment is almost ready but they’ll have to pay some certain amount, he’ll discuss with his colleagues only to find out its true. I dislike his being worried about it but what can I do than to just be there for him any little way I can? This country is messed up. May God bless me for him and May he be comforted always.... my Pop is 74years now. 3 Likes |

Go and get his death certificate, cause of death/report from the hospital which will be confirmed by the local government. Get a good lawyer or proceed to the court and get a probate form. You are going get LA. |

Ninobraw: If he was a govt worker, then thats the end of the matter. he has been paid gratuity and got his pension till he died. There is nothing more he is owed. Though if he worlked for the govt and was being paid his pension till he died there is a high probability because of govt inefficiencies they will continue paying the pension........but understand they are not supposed to, his estate is not entitled to any more pension now that he is dead. If he was on a different private sector pension scheme, then I cannot comment. |
