This is just my personal observation but for a while, I've observed this trend and can't really tell why. Even car owners or drivers, as soon as they stepped out of their vehicles, one of the first things they go for is their phones on their hands.

This is a global trend and not just among Nigerians along. Though, it's called handset as most persons will argue, the meaning of the word "handset" doesn't necessarily mean holding it all the time. Handset simply means a "Mobile Phone".

Is the pocket or bags not good enough for keeping of phones? Even as I write this, I keep observing same scenario. You may make your research on this too if this hypothesis is valid or not.

What do you think is the reason?

It depend on the location.
In a city like Lagos, it is safer to hold your phone tightly in your hand.

I’ve not seen this before. The reason I know people hold phones is if their pockets are shallow. I have many shorts with such pockets. Another person said Lagos is filled with pickpockets, that is a good reason.

It's called handsets not pocket sets

I notice that alot, that's why some phone quickly peel at the back, i don't hold my phone unless i hava a call.

Its called hand-set for that purpose nau

Especially iphone users over busybody too dey worry them, untill area boys comot all their teeth

To reduce radiation from phones, the further away it is from your body, the better. Therefore, holding it in your hand is far better than pocketing it.

Op this thing you posted, what did you use to post it?? If it was your phone, please close the thread.

The same reason you use your phone is the same reason everybody else is holding & using theirs

I like the feeling that comes with holding it in my hand
I also don't want anything in my pocket like keys mistakenly scratch the screen or camera lenses
Thirdly the color of the phone is very fine u might even mistake it for a glass back ,so I like to show it off a little

Preference. Personally, I prefer to hold my phone than to place it in my pockets.

In Lagos, we are all moving mad.

Man, you don't walk around Doyin-Orile holding your phone when it is 6:30pm . you hide your phone and wallet very well in your pocket/bag, and run from Railway till you get to the other side of the bus stop (Orile brigde) and this is about 20minutes run..

We men choose to not keep phones in our pockets because of its disposition to reduce the quality of sperm due to radiation,we ain't taking no chances where the health of our pleasure tool is concern!

As for bags we men don't carry bags along like the women folks that packs all their kitchen and bedroom wares in their bags

Most men are cheats! Always mindful to loose their phones to anything especially their wives.. That’s why they keep their phones handy!!

You did not tell us whether you do carry your own phone in your pocket or not...

But if you do carry your own phone in your hand, tell us your reasons.

Options:

A. I do because I see others do

B. I don't know the reason I do it

C. I do because it heavier in my pocket
than in my hand

D. It's safer in my hand than in my
pocket ( the screen can easily get
damage in my pocket )

E. I want others to know I have phone
too.

Since my phone was removed from my pocket in a busy bus stop without my knowledge... I now know the importance of carrying your phone in your hand....

We're struggling with one another who is to enter the bus 1st, when I settled down my phone is nowhere to be found!

They use HANDPHONE then now we use SMARTPHONE
