Today I found myself in garden estate..I can see Nigerians..only people to put Muslim wear in a bar...I play pool.Every Nigeria Muslim or not has that Islamic wear...never happened in Kenya.In Kenya Muslim are mostly Arabs in Kenya coast and related Swahili..then Somalis .they chew khat..never will you see them in bars.Nigeria are crazy people...how the hell do a Muslim turn up in a club

Nairobi Metro is close to 10m - about 7-8M.
Nairobi if allows Slumization (private informal sector) will become another Accra or Lagos in few decades.
The housing sector has to be formalized - pension funds, insurances, big housing companies and gov to provide social housing.
Gov doesnt need money to build houses.
Let use Kibera for example
The slums are in very prime areas - Kibera lies btw Upper hill/Kilimani and Langata/Karen
An acre of land in Kibera would easily sell for 5m dollars - minimum 2 million dollars.
Now kibera is 650 acres.
That land is worth 2-3Billion dollars or about.
Give a chinese developer that land - tell him to squeeze the current 200K Kibera people into 20 percent of the land by building up - and rest to convert for private market rates houses- and pay himself.
200K people probably live in 50K units.
That chinese can develop very basic units for 10K -20 usd each- that is 500M- 1B dollars
So that land is even more valuable - than providing them free houses.
The same can be done in all Nairobi slums.
That will clear backlog of slums.
And gov can start to keep up with social housing needs...

But if Kenya was to continue with informalization of it's housing sector - we would become Accra - HUGE ENDLESS SLUMPOLIS - where everyone wakes up and build their own thing.

Housing sector need BIG developers with muscle to build proper housing estates - even if it's basic - but orderly, organized, with amenities and uniformity.

it's difficult problem..do you outlaw informal trade like Rwanda tries ..do you criminalize and brutalize like Kenya..do you allow as French say laissez-faire or carefree like west Africa..or do you organise them like museveni and western countries do..I favour museveni approach..hawkers, kiosks and informal traders should be organised like Uganda did for public taxi or trotos or dafno that Kenya copied..let them as poor as they are be organised,orderly.. like it or not poor urban poor will eke a living...best to organise them..into some semblance of order.if you're street hawker in Uganda you wear uniforms that say it.. you have some code of conduct..your leadership know you..the same for informal transport..there has be attempt to order without criminalizing poverty..as people fend and will fend whether you like or not as it's survival game

It's a difficult problem but I don't think the solution is difficult.Not necessary to ban them but to restrict them to specific areas cus of the mess they have created around. Nigeria also allows a carefree type of trade but you don't see this Kiosk and containers taking prime Locations in the city centres like it does here. Maybe a cut off in the prices of rentals will help, cus containers and kiosk keep multiplying while shops aren't getting filled up entirely.

there's nothing like Islamic wear inappropriately .... In my school, most of us were not Islamic practicers but we made Islamic wear a fashion ... We wore them ever Friday...

Not everything has to be about religion..

Not everyone wearing a hijab or a kurta is a practicing Muslim
