The Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB (IPOB) has said that being part of Biafra would never be by coercion but voluntary through a referendum. The group, in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary Emma Powerful, said any tribe or ethnicity not willing to be part of the republic would not be forced to do so. It however said such tribes must conduct a referendum for their people to decide their fate on the agitation for Biafra. The group further refuted reports accusing the leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu of drawing the Biafra map, describing it as false and targeted to set the members against themselves. The statement reads in part: “Our attention has been drawn to the blackmail being sponsored by our detractors that IPOB has drawn the Biafra map. We, therefore, want to debunk such a fallacious narrative. We did not draw any Biafra map. “We understand that some people in the coastal region of Biafra are misinformed and deceived with false information that IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu and Igbo have drawn the map of Biafra. It is false and intended to set us against ourselves. The issue of the Biafra map should not generate any heat because we know ourselves. “Ijaw National Council (INC) should understand and remember that their brother Dr Frank Opigo initiated the name Biafra which we answer today. “They should stop saying that Ijaw wasn’t conquered pre-colonial and Colonial-era because Igbo never said they were conquered. “Igbo people never conquered any tribe in the old Eastern region because our fathers saw themselves as one family, and today IPOB and Nnamdi KANU have towed the peaceful steps and accommodating spirits of our fathers but if any tribe undermined our no problem you can continue on your own. “Being part of BIAFRA will never be by coercion but a voluntary matter through a referendum. “Any tribe or ethnicity who doesn’t want to be part of Biafra will never be forced to do so. Such tribes are free to go on their own but you must conduct a referendum for your people to decide their fate on the agitation for Biafra “We can attest that Igbo people never fought against any tribe in olden days because Igbo believe in (Onyeaghala Nwanne ya and, Ibiri Kamu biri) (live and let live). “Again Ijaw tribe and other tribes in the old Eastern region including the Mid Western region are Igbo brothers and sisters today, tomorrow and forever. “Igbo are not going to force anybody or tribe to join the fight for Biafra freedom. Let every tribe try what they can to wake up for their freedom because freedom is good and remains the best for all of us. “No tribe in the old Eastern region and Western region should allow themselves to be deceived because Nnamdi KANU and IPOB did not draw map for Biafra. THE IJAW REPUBLIC PROVINCES. The Ijaw People's Liberation Front, IPLF, after deliberations among their leaders, have fully arranged the Ijaw Republic Provinces. According to their leader, General Ditari, while speaking from the Ijaw Republic, The Ijaw Republic will be making use of the word, provinces, of which is equivalent to states, and will be making use of the word division, in place of local government areas. The Ijaw Republic will be having three geopolitical zones, (Western, Central, Eastern), exactly the way it is, under the 3 apex Ijaw sociocultural organizations. The Ijaw National Congress, INC, The Lovers of Ijaw Nation organization, LINO and the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC. The Ijaw National Congress is for elders alone. The Ijaw Youth Council is for youths alone. The Lovers of Ijaw Nation Organization is created for both elders and youths to be able to participate together, and equally in same organization. It is created to be under the INC. Same structure with the other two. Each of the 3 Regions of the Ijaw Republic have 5 provinces (states) each. The central zone have the Ijaw Republic capital city, of which is in the Wilberforce Island, the centre of the Ijaw Republic. THE WESTERN REGION PROVINCES. 1. WESTERN IJAW PROVINCE Carries the Ijaws of the 2 and half Ijaw clans in Nigeria's Ondo State. The Arogbo, Apoi, and parts of Furupagha clan with them there. Capital: Arogbo. 2. BENI-EBE PROVINCE Carries the whole Ijaws of Nigeria's Edo state. That comprises of the remaining Furupagha, the Gbaraun, Okomu, Olodiama West and half of Egbema clan. Egbema will not be balkanized like the way it was in Nigeria's edo and delta all Egbema goes with BENI-EBE. Capital : Ajakurama, Egbema leaders will later tell us which is the present headquarters of Egbema Kingdom, between Ofunama and Ajakurama, but right now it remains in Ajakurama, until the Binipre of Egbema say otherwise. 3. WARE PROVINCE. Comprises of the whole Ijaws of the Nigeria's 3 Warri lgas, with the subtraction of the Egbema of Warri North, and addition of the Ogulagha clan of Burutu. Capital Okerenkoko Centre of Ware Province. 4. TORU-EBE PROVINCE Carries the whole Ijaw clans in Burutu. With the subtraction of Ogulagha clan Capital Burutu. 5. BOMADI PROVINCE. Carries the whole Ijaws of Nigeria's Bomadi and Patani lgas. Kabu towns of Asamabiri, Elemebiri, Adagbabiri, Ekperiware and Trofani, in Nigeria's Sagbama LGA goes with their other Kabu relatives to Bomadi province. Capital Bomadi. CENTRAL REGION PROVINCES. WEST CENTRAL PROVINCE Carries Nigeria's Bayelsa West senatorial District with the subtraction of Okugbe Isoko Kingdom of osekwenike, Abuetor, Okpokiri etc, at the border. Capital Aleibiri centre of the province. 2. SOUTHERN IJAW PROVINCE Carries the 176 towns of Nigeria's Southern Ijaw LGA. Capital Furupagha. 3. NORTHERN IJAW PROVINCE. Carries all the Ijaw in Nigeria's Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA Yenagoa LGA, and the Engenni clan of Nigeria's Ahoada West. Capital. Ovom. 4.Ogbia Province. Carries the whole Ogbia Ijaw subgroup. Capital Ogbia Town. 5. BRASS PROVINCE Carries the whole Nembe Ijaw subgroup people of Nigeria's Nembe and Brass LGA, as well as the Akassa clan. Capital. Twon Brass. WILBERFORCE ISLAND. The centre of the Ijaw Republic. The federal capital territory. The island takes parts of these clans, the Ogboin, Kolokuma, Ekpetiama, Mein, Atissa, Tarakiri, to form it. The spiritual home of all Ijaws. It's in the central region. THE EASTERN REGION PROVINCES . 1.The DEGEMA PROVINCE. Carries the Ijaw clans of Abua, Odual, Kugbo and Degema clans. Capital Degema. 2.KALABARI PROVINCE. Carries the whole Kalabari Ijaw people, and also Bille clan. Capital Buguma. 3. WAKIRIKE PROVINCE. Carries the whole Ijaws of the Wakirike (Okrika) Ijaw people Capital Okrika. 4. IBANI PROVINCE. Carries the whole Ibani Ijaws and also Nkoro clan, of Nigeria's Opobo/Nkoro and Bonny Lgas. Capital Bonny. EASTERN IJAW PROVINCE. Carries the whole Obolo Ijaws of Nigeria's Andoni, Eastern Obolo and Ibeno LGA. Capital Okoroete. The new Ijaw Central dialect, being worked upon by the 3 apex Ijaw sociocultural organizations will settle so much thing in the Ijaw Nation. We are Ijaws, and we remain Ijaw forever. Ijaws Move To Join Suit Seeking Exit Of South-East From Nigeria : 10:14pm On Jan 20 YENAGOA – The Ijaw National Congress (INC) has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to join it as a defendant in the suit filed by four Northern elders seeking the exit of the South-East from Nigeria. The joinder application was filed on behalf of the INC and its incorporated trustees by two legal practitioners, Dickson Sofiyegha and Temedie Peter-Great. The four plaintiffs, Nastura Ashir Shariff, Balarabe Rufa’i, Abdul-Aziz Sulaiman and Aminu Adam, in the originating suit numbered FHC/ABJ/CS/538/2021, are urging the court to grant their prayers to avoid a repeat of the unfortunate incidents of the Civil War. The Attorney-General of the Federation, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly are listed as defendants in the matter. The court presided over by Justice Ekwo Ekwo, on Thursday, adjourned to March 4, 2022, when the joinder application of the apex Ijaw socio-cultural organisation would be heard. Among those present in court were the national president of the INC, Prof Benjamin Okaba, the national legal adviser, Bomo Tom-Fetepigi, national secretary, Ebipamowei Wodu, chairman of the INC, Abuja chapter, Ebizimo Okolo and other prominent Ijaw sons and daughters. In October 2021, some Igbo lawyers had filed their application for joinder to enable them to state the true position of the people of the region whom they contended had yet to be represented in the suit. Okaba, in a statement after filing the joinder, said that the legal action was in line with the resolutions taken by Ijaw people at the All Ijaw Summit held on December 4, 2021, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, to decisively pursue and defend their right to self-determination through peaceful, lawful and non-violent means. He said, “Any union or business partnership that perpetually fails to breed or guarantee mutual benefits must be restructured or discontinued to avoid liquidation. When the possibility of healing a cancerous limb is non-existent, the only therapy is amputation to save a life.” On claims by some Biafra Republic promoters that Ijaw territory belong to them, Okaba reiterated that the Ijaw nation was never conquered even during the pre-colonial and colonial eras. He said, “If the Ijaw nation must exit, the process shall be peaceful and would come only under the auspices of the Ijaw Republic. All secessionists are advised to take note of this.” The INC, in an affidavit in support of the motion on notice deposed to by its national secretary, Ebipamowei Wodu, said it was aware that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had in its quest for secession included Ijaw-speaking areas in their geographical map for the Biafra Republic. The 24-point affidavit read in part: “That I also know as a fact that the Map of Biafra has listed 25 provinces of Biafra which includes Ijaw speaking cultural groups / ethnic nationalities in Bayelsa, Delta, Cross Rivers, Akwa Ibom and the Rivers States of Nigeria. “That I know as a fact that at no point in time, both in the historical past and at present, has the Ijaw ethnic nationality ever agreed or resolved to be part of the Biafra Republic. The Ijaw National Congress hereby unequivocally reiterates that no Ijaw tribe or territory is part of or will ever be part of the Republic of Biafra. “That I know as a fact that, in view of the foregoing facts, the reliefs sought in this originating summons will likely affect the rights of Applicant and indeed the larger interest of the Ijaw ethnic nationality who the Applicant represents in a manner that will be irreparable. “That it is necessary to join the Applicant to this suit, to afford them the opportunity of asserting their right to self-determination from Nigeria, which is similar to the right being sought to be enforced in favour of the South Eastern States of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “That it is also necessary to join the Applicant to enable them to clarify/settle the controversy of the geographical territory of the Ijaw nation as against that of the Indigenous People of Biafra to avoid more disputes between the people of the Ijaw nation and the people of Biafra which is likely to arise should the Honourable Court grant the instant application based on the current status quo. “That the Applicant is a necessary party as the instant suit cannot be fairly decided in its absence. Thus, the presence of the Applicant is necessary for the effectual and complete determination of a core issue before the Honourable Court; being the self-determination of the people of Biafra, at the core of which right is the issue of geographical territory over which the people of Biafra are entitled to have their self-determination. “That it is also necessary to join the Applicant to this suit, in view of the similarity of the interest of the people of Biafra and the people of the Ijaw nation in gaining self-determination from Nigeria; and to enable this Court to settle this burning question of self-determination once and for all to avoid multiplicity of suits on the same subject matter of self-determination of ethnic nationalities from Nigeria. “That it is also necessary to join the Applicant to this suit to enable this Honourable Court to settle the question of the geographical territory of Biafra and the Ijaw Nation once and for all to avoid or forestall a possible future litigation on the subject matter.” The INC further contended that the refusal of the instant application would affect its fundamental right to a fair hearing, stressing that it was in the interest of justice to grant the application as neither of the parties was likely to be prejudiced by the grant of the application. https://independent.ng/inc-moves-to-join-suit-seeking-exit-of-seast-from-nigeria/ |
