The Bolded is the problem, is the mentality of i don't need it, and it doesn't really matter or it is expensive, in Nigeria interior decoration is a thing of luxury which only the rich can enjoy and few middle class.
when it comes to luxury i don't think it has to do with why, it has to do with can i afford it, the service usually seems fit for who can afford it cos without it your house will still be habitable.

Little thread like cracks both horizontal and vertical around the lobby area. .. In fact the entire building.

The occupants informed me of this just tonight and this house is barely 2 years old.
Some of the cracks seems like it's from the plastering but some are really becoming very pronounced.

What's the implication of this and also possible remedies.

The pics attached may not be visible enough because the cracks are pretty tiny. The second photo is from the building exterior... I think that's a crack because it worked it's way into the window art work.

I asked because I would want to know the reinforcement schedule or if some structural measures were considered on the structural members.

However, vertical and horizontal crack in a building is not good expcially horizontal crack.

Cracks in building is as a result of:

1 Poor plaster moter ( Minor)
2 poorly laid block wall
3 lack of quality block
4 lack of simultaneous lintel reinforcement
5 poor structural drawings ( scanty columns)
6 uneven displacement on the earth surface ( especially when the oversight is not reinforced)
7 choosing wrong foundation
8 unprofessional practice

Remedial :

Get a structural engineer to visit the site, definitely he will fix it.

My shop decking is cracking as a result of the ceiling fun hanging rod they put up there. It's not firm. It wobles with the ceiling fan and I now notice cracking allover it decking.

Another thing is I plan to uninstall the ceiling fan. The decking is a new deck ans there is plan to put another shop on top. I was worried if all this will affect the structure and it looks like the deck is not strong.

I need advice from experience personal from this house to advise.

The truth is, while preparing structural design/analysis all of the bolded concerns are usually addressed (cracks/creeps | live and dead load). That infact helps the engineer to arrive at an informed decision on the grade of concrete and diameter of steel to be used for a structural member. (It is now a case of, was a structural design used or was there proper supervision?)

Solution
Since theres plan to add another floor, please get an engineer to perform a nondestructive test(NDT test) on the structure. This test will give detailed information about the slab and further advise will be given.

aaah! Boss what can i say, i was just being real, not tell an unrealistic lie to win a client, the truth is most people don't see it as a big deal just ephemera, some cherish it and know the value it adds to their personality.

i happened to have toured a very big mansion in Abia state april last year, 7 rooms, 3 living rooms and 2 ante-rooms, a man of a political class.
he asked we do a the interior design of the spaces except the toilets then do the costing, everything was going fine until we presented the costings, behold we were turned down. we even returned to lagos to source for premium materials and their pricing.

imagine the stress of going to the site taking measurements and doing the designs yourself, something that was done on impression, he outrightly said he can't afford it without a second thought. Ok even if not all he could have just given us some spaces, nada not even one. Efforts just went down the drain.

In the east interior decoration is not a big deal. He must have thought what is the big deal, what is special, i can just tell them this and that point hand there and here it is done, cos actually we saw some pop designs and wall decorations already done but they're not looking good or they could be better.

So i feel is better to say it the way it is than try to lure clients with unrealistic claims, interior decoration is something that is done with a lot of precision and accuracy, extreme accuracy, with great attention to details. if you fake it, within a short period of time it will show and that will tell bad of my person as a professional.

A friend of mine who is a banker sent me this image below asking me how much it would cost to do something similar, i told her nothing less than 500k, including the sofa and flower pot. She said is a lot, i simply told her yes, the higher the price the better the quality, and the cheaper the price then less quality it would be, and you won't enjoy any longevity.

Also looking at your building my guess the roof height is under 20feet.i would put 0'45mm roofing sheets..0'55 maybe an overkill..offcourse it's your house and your money and your call.cheers

Hello guys.....thank God I found this thread.

I have a duplex under construction, we are at the roofing stage now, but my worry is I noticed the decking in two room vibrate if u jump on it. I first noticed it when a helper dropped a bucket of sand on the floor of the deck while I was standing on it. The way I felt a pulse under my feet I didnt like it. Few days later I noticed cracks under the deck......

I called the engineers attention and he said it was poor concrete mixture and that the guyz that poured d decking didn't get to the right level.

His solution is to chisel off the middle of d decking in d room about 9inches and then introduce an external beam.

Meaning we will crack open the middle of the room abt 9inches wide, wall to wall and then introduce a beam under.

What do the experts here thing. I'm really worried bcs cracking a decking isnt soo good, would it not affect the whole building.
