mamathrice:The name Ifakehinde ,contracted doesn't necessarily need to be associated with twin because Kehinde has to do with second arrival or the last arrival. Though it is an Awo name which was derived from Ifaodu practitioner's ordination. The bearer is either an offspring of an Ifaodu's priest who has mastery knowledge of the religion or someone who seek help of male child birth through the Ifaodu and after the child was born , he became identified with the religion, in which the child could become consecrated to the priestly lineage of the religion directly or indirectly as a practitioner of it. Ifa or Odu as Prefixed to name is highly revered in Yoruba land because most of the ancestors of these names are priestly lineage, or knowledgeable kingly lineage who understand Ifaodu doctrine. Secondly, Ifaodu isn't a diety from the simplest way you look at it but that which draws from the base or foundation of creation. The base of creation is where the Yoruba language was stored over 1000s of years ago, which is the reason Yoruba claim to be the earliest citizens of the world even if this isn't true to a large extent. Still,Yoruba ancestors had knowledge of the creation of the world through Ela,who created the world and spoke to Yoruba ancestors through geomancy (cast lot) |
