This is a very unkind attack simply because he has a different view from you.

I didn't know that IELTS test now costs 89k courtesy of our dwindling exchange rate. Trust Nigerians. Instead of holding their government accountable for the crashes, they're blaming an organized government for looking out for their own welfare
Is exchange rate not affecting french CFA? Why is french proficient result does not expire? Ietls expires after 2 years. That is issue for discussion.

I support the continuation of IELTS for Nigerians.

As long as so many Nigerian youths have refused to correct themselves from using "Am" where they should be using "I'm", then it is of no use claiming that you went to an English speaking school because obviously, you've not even learnt anything at all with regards to basic English Grammar.

Is that also why it expires every two years? Nigerians can defend anything to their own detriment. Lol

You people should stop this rubbish. How dear you compare education in France to that of the UK? UK is far better. How many go to France to school?

Our English in Naija is different from UK and US English. Let us be serious here.

Also, your currency is the wahala. This is the same amount all other non speaking English countries pay. You are subjected to it cos many of you cannot speak good English. And your accent is bad. Go and watch Nollywood and listen to how they yell like people from another world. Common "TH", you cannot pronounce well. No one is saying you should form fake Amerikana accent, but pronounce clearly.

Una wan japa, you dey call govt to fight this for you. Una no serious. I dont understand how people dont use their brains to know the right cause to fight. The same exam has been there for a long time. Even Ahmadu Bello, Obafemi Awolowo and other did the test in 1940s. Did they complain of the money to write it? TOEFL is for the US.

Go face the economy of your nation. Get us good leaders. Vote wisely. Let us make naija better. It's your currency killing you and not IELTS. This is to show you that Naija is dead.

My friend stop saying what you don’t know abeg. Which ahmadu bello wrote ielts? An exam that was introduced in 1989 or what are you thinking sef. When the British gave us their constitutions did u need ielts to read or understand it. Nigeria is bad but please just face the fact these guys are money spinners from their glorified language tax. Na them impose language on us and they’re still telling you to pay to speak it.
You talk about accent or whatever. Do you think we love the white man’s accent too? If not slave colonialism do you think you’ll be speaking these foreign lingua?
Look deep and say it as it is. Dem no force us to write am doesn’t mean ielts isn’t what it is. A language tax scam!

It’s so funny that a language you learnt from childhood expires every two years after paying much money to get a glorified paper certificate. Meanwhile you get to Canada and see Indians and Chinese speaking their horrible English and you start to imagine if it’s still same ielts exam you wrote they too partook of.

Scam

But the same government is happy receiving several billions of dollars every year from Nigerians living abroad. Apart from oil, money sent home from abroad is another huge chunk the government relies on.
It doesn't mean the govt should support the lose of its best people.

The money they remit is far less than the potential they could have produced for Nigeria.

SECONDED,
because English is the primary medium of instruction in Nigeria at all levels of education,
We don't need IELTS at all.

Most or if not all Caribbean countries do not take the English test so why should African colonies do?

We are still signing the petition as we type.
More signatures needed from sane, honest and hardworking Nigerians.

Your opinion on ielts doesn't matter to anyone.

No, he is saying Nigerian govt does not owe you anything in your Japa hustle.

Don't you think so?

Are you expecting the govt to help you leave Nigeria and take your skills elsewhere?

Think am well na.

Not everyone taking the test wants to Japa, some people have the aim of getting higher education and return to Nigeria.

Government shouldn't help any brain drain, bit it should ensure that we are being treated fairly.

British government seems very selfish and somehow ripping us. Imagine our official language is English yet we are not being recognised as English speaking country....

Imagine you spend money sending a woman/man to school thinking when done two of you can marry and be happy but alas, the person falls in love with someone else and says you are below his/her standard but still expects you to foot the wedding bill.

Or you as MD spends money training staff and the staff decides to just up and leave yet expects you to pay for transportation to the new firm.

The Nigerian government owes you nothing in this IELTS fight.

Where in Nigeria do you have free primary and secondary School education. It seems your own Nigeria is different or you are just being mischievous.

Have you ever wondered why the highly sought English Proficiency Test (IELTS) so expensive as against other foreign language tests? Why e dey rise everyday like garri wen dem pour water?

I know that the demand is high, as its a major requisite by educational institutions abroad, either for work or study. But as compared to the French Proficiency test taken by francophone countries for the same purposes, it is way too expensive.

How can one undergo all his studies in English Language ( from primary to tertiary) and would still have to write a test that its result expires every two years? Do we tend to forget the skills of English learnt after the two years(even if there is basis for the test) or what?

Those at the helm of affairs in the educational sector should please take this on and treat as urgent, even the poor wan comot for this country too. We dey beg!

Who needs French as much as English in this world?
You better work to make your own language/culture relevant through industry instead of begging for favours from whites upandan.
Is that not what Asians do generally?

It's money making for them, this exam was #35,000 in 2015. Why it keeps increasing in price is what I don't understand, I guess the higher the demand, the higher the price.
Re: IELTS: English Proficiency Test Cost As Against The French Proficiency Test Cost by PeacenLove2: 8:35am On Jan 27, 2022
To be honest, IELTS is fraudulent. If at all, they want to subject people to a language proficiency, their methods are dishonest. Many proficient people will still fail unless they practice past questions endlessly.

Take their Listening for instance, if you have taken IELTS, you would understand how ridiculous this one is.

Fact is, it's not a genuine test for proficiency, it's a money making business and therefore designed for you to keep coming back. And even when you scale through, they want you to come back soon again only after 2 years because they are aware processing times for visas are most likely delayed.

It's a scam. Everything about it.

English wey majority of their native speakers no sabi reach many of us. Well sha, no be dem fault.

There's no reason why IELTS should be "renewed every two years".

If you know how to speak a language, you know how to speak it; If you pass the exam, that should be settled.

If that is the purpose of the exam.

Anyway, the exam seems to be a cash cow for whoever.

Look deep and say it as it is. Dem no force us to write am doesn’t mean ielts isn’t what it is. A language tax scam!

Lol to the Ahmadu Bello and Awolowo...was an exaggeration. But then, the British had a working system where there was an evaluation method whereby they showed they could write, speak and read English well. Go and listen to Ahmadu Bello and Awolowo, and compare how they handled the language with Nigerians of today. Do you think they dont read the nonsense Nigerians put on facebook, twitter, instagram, etc. If your english is good, you will want to conduct tests for Nigerians. Take it or leave it.

If you follow stories on how scammers are nabbed, one pattern they pay attention to is the grammar. Lol. Let us be real here. Nigerians write and speak bad English.

You are also wrong. It was set up in 1980 and not 89. Lol. But this test is the same price all over the world. Only the broke ass are shouting. Lol. You are broke. It's simple as ABC. Lol.

No one sends you. No one. Lol. You want to relocate yo the UK, Australia, or Canada, go and do the test. Stop complaining. When you get there, you will be eatming dollars and pounds. Lol. Broke ass wants to justify himself.

See, you.are the one with the slavery mentality now. If you dont have it, you will just be looking at the British and mock them with their ielts. So, what exactly do you need the slave masters? No be you wan go there? To do what? Answer na? Of course to serve them anc make money grin lol.

They forced you to speak English cos of slavery in those days, but now, you are forcing yourself and wan die on top say dem you cannot afford it. Who is the slave? All EU nations dey write am. They pay same amount as you pay...and only you dey complain. You even justified the money they take by saying your mother's tongue is not English. Lol. If you had accepted that...ok ooo....you are a slave to the British...then, they can say...fine...dont do it. But you are telling them that you have a mother's tongue and you dont want to show them you can handle their own language well. See yourself na. You are confused. Totally confused..

You are the one who needs deliverance to see things well. See, leave the British alone with their style. Go elsewhere or pay the fee. Stop making a nuisance of yourself around.

You called it a language tax scam, but they dont force you. And you want to fight what you voluntarily pay for. Are you ok? If your govt here put out a tax on something and they didnt force you, and you had options, would you complain? If you complained, would people not shun you off? See, you are making a mockery of yourself. I dont know what is in your head. Is it only UK around? Go else where or make your nation better. You want to relocate to the UK, do what they require you do.

If they tax you on speaking their language, then, leave it alone. Is that not what to do? Ok ooo. Dont. Keep making mockery of yourself like someone who cannot use his brain. The shame is on you. Na so dem go insult you and call you a monkey who cannot think. Yes, you are acting like a real monkey now with this reasoning method of yours.

Truth is always very bitter.

Goodluck!

I doubt if UK will ever remove ielts for Nigerians hoping to relocate to the country. They make mad money from it, so e go hard.
One thing I've discovered in all my travels to the UK is that the number of people with foreign passport at the UK border at Heathrow is more than 40x the people with UK passport. But wen I return to Lagos Airport, the number of Nigerian passport is 80x the number of people with foreign passports(most are even Nigerians with foreign citizenship)

That shows that while foreiners are running to the UK, only few foreigners enter Nigeria

I think say na only me notice this thing.

Entering UK na queue while passport holders have a different line which is short. Then re-entering naija same thing long queue with green passport and short queue for foreign passport

I tire.
