5b is the estimated cost of all Dodoma projects. That's, Dodoma gov city(aka magufuli city),Tramway,gov funded housing projects like ihumwa,soccer pitch,water projects, and other parastatals headquarters buildings which are constructed next to gov city,not to forget the international airport.

I never heard of anybody in Kenya or kenya gov promoting Nairobi for tourism. Tourists do not come to Nairobi - they go to Maasai Mara to watch animals - then retreat to coast to swim in warm sandy world class beaches. They sleep day one in Nairobi - and on their last day - probably. Why would a tourist come to see an African city?

So this our Nairobi of us has grown organically - without any oil injection like Abuja - it's just boom with economy - in 1960s & 70s - kenya economy was booming - Nairobi started to build skyscrappers - till late 80s - when economy went into rough patch - it stopped growing until 2005 - and it has been growing on steroids.

Bottom line - city grows or deteriorate with the economy.

Africa is a continent of 50 cities - if your capital city look crappy - then rest of the country is certainly more crappy. Kenya tourism account for I think 2.5 percent of the economy. Only folks who care about tourism are along the Kenya coast. Nairobi nobody gives a damn about tourist or tourism...they are rare...white and asian in Nairobi are either citizens or expats....most tourists hate Nairobi enough not spend even a night there...they just come for different experience.

Nairobi grew because it became social capital of a troubled region - in the horn of Africa - kenya has been most peaceful - avoiding coups and civil wars - and Nairobi became the epicenter for NGOS and rebels - Uganda fought for 20yrs - Sudan forever - Ethiopia long civil wars - somali wars - DRC congo - and they rush to Nairobi for a breather or to seek medical help or their kids education or buy property with looted money - the UN and NGOS also descent in Nairobi to coordinate humaniterian activities.

That lead to sustained real estate market for high end properties - both retail, hotels and offices.
