The APC government has further exposed itself as having been unprepared or unfit for leadership.

No manifesto, no roadmap, no focus, no target, no clearcut direction as to where we as a country is headed.

If all the APC knows is just to keep borrowing, then any Tom, Dick and Harry could come into leadership positions. Only a government of chalartans will always resort to borrowing because it believes solely on borrowing.

He who goes aborrowing, they say, goes are sorrowing!

The future of Nigeria, by all indices, appears bleak.

I pity those clamoring to take over from the bubulized fellow.

LOOK FG REMOVE THE SUBSIDY AND GIVE REASONS TO YOUR PEOPLE HOW IT WOULD TRANSLATE TO IMPROVED SOCIAL WELFARE SUCH AS SCHOOLS GOOD ROADS INFRASTRUCTURE ETC. BUT YOU WONT DO THAT CAUSE REASON YOU ARE ACTUALLY NOT REMOVING THE SUBSIDY IS BECAUSE OF 2023 ELECTIONS YOU DO NOT WANT TO GIVE NIGERIANS A REASON NOT TO VOTE YOU HENCE THE POSTPONEMENT. THE FACT REMAINS THAT YOU POLITICIANS ARE SELFISH EVEN YOUR SO CALLED GOOD ACT IS JUST A SELFISH PLOY TO WIN THE PPLS VOTES ONCE YOU ACHIEVE THIS YOU WOULD REMOVE SUBSIDY WHICH WOULD BE IN BETWEEN 2027/2028 IN TINUBUS SECOND TERM DO YOU KNOW WHY AM SURE OF THIS CAUSE BY THEN APC AND PDP WOULD HAVE BOTH RULED FOR 16 YEARS HENCE TIME TO HAND OVER TO PDP SO ELECTIONS REALLY WONT MATTER AS THE AGREEMENT WAS FOR POWER TO SHIFT TO PDP ANFER APCS 16 YEARS

Nonsense wake up from your utopia, it is always greener on the other side, you can’t give what you don’t have.

What is Government? Federal, State & Local Government? Or to the legions of Mumurist, it is only Federal that is government to them?
Chairman, change is the only constant in the mortal world and most especially governance. Bringing power closer to the people will encourage good governance -simple

Nigeria's problem is ethnic.

If this happened in 2011-14, this thread will be hitting 24 pages by now and our hypocritical brothers from the south will be claiming something else.
Well, a lot of people are using ethnic slurs against the government right now....same as in 2011-14.

And yes, the government too has been just as bad as the previous one, if not worse.

Where is there so called "just anger" ? What happened to there so called quest for good governance ?
Nigerians just want their side in power. That's why some of us can't stand Nigerian politics. And some of us refuse to vote for APC and PDP.

Anyway, the only justification for this government or any other coming government to remove fuel subsidy is

1) allow states and private bodies to build power plants, generate ,transmit and sell directly to customers-no more rubbish of transmission to national grid.
Yes, but the states and private bodies must be allowed to set cost reflective tarrifs, not tarrifs set by Abuja to help poor people. They must be allowed to set tarrifs that would earn them lots of profit. Not make power at N53 and sell it at N20-30 (which was the situation in 2018)

Also Nigerians must stop stealing power, and stop bypassing their meters.

2) increase minimum wage relative to actual economic realities or,put our politicians on a civil service Level payroll.
Yes, and that is why subsidy must go.

That N3 trillion that we are going to spend on subsidy could have been used to raise minimum wages. You guys don't know what you are missing by trying to eat your cake and have it a la subsidy.

3) Allow states access to develop resources within its borders .
[/quote]Goes without saying, but then again ultimately Nigeria must use its resoruces to develop industrial goods for export at prices we can control...so that we can earn cash.

Selling resources just means we would be selling at a loss...because the international export prices of cocoa, rice, palm oil, etc are not controlled in Nigeria.

At best the National Assembly spends 1.5 trillion naira annually. Cutting down on their expenses, while nice, won't make a dent in the money needed to pay for subsidies.

Same for Federal government.

We have to cut down their expenses, but it won't solve the problem the way you think it should.

So are you suggesting the masses should keep suffering alone, their security votes and salaries should be slashed, this is the best option, how can Nigeria keep borrowing to pay salaries, where are we heading to huh

No, I am saying we should remove subsides, so that government can save money and potentially earn more money from the resulting profits, investment, and so forth that results from subsidy removal.

Like if we had removed subsidy, ya think NNPC would be asking for N3 trillion naira now? Obviously not. And by extension, we won't need to borrow to make up for money lost to subsidy...in addition to what we borrow for oil prices not being high enough.

Even if we spent all the money allocated for national assembly to pay for subsidy, and left them with nothing, it wont be enough to cover subsidy costs for a given year...even for the first 9 months.

the above isn't an issue. Some privileged areas in Nigeria have 24/7 power showing it can actually work in Nigeria. The problem was and still is,the discos are actually fed government owned. There isn't any reason for them to improve since at the end of the day, power or no power your bill must come-and you must pay.

this administration claimed to have removed subsidy some years ago .The price of petrol more than doubled and Nigerians have nothing to show for it. Obj removed toll gates increased price of petrol and yet our roads collapsed- now toll gates are making a return.

every policy of the government at the center since 1999 ended in disaster, broken promises or got discontinued by the next (eg the Nipp project that is responsible for almost 30% of our installed capacity today).

what happened to the billions budgeted in consecutive years to revamp our refineries ?

if truly this government has any good intentions towards the citizens in removing subsidy, they will have tabled it since.

instead the came up with 5000 transport transfer to poor families (a ludicrous , unverifiable and corruption leaden concept).

Goes without saying, but then again ultimately Nigeria must use its resoruces to develop industrial goods for export at prices we can control...so that we can earn cash.

And what stops Nigeria from exporting goods ?

there was a discontinued Automobile policy that cars sold in Africa's largest economy will have to be produced in it ? it got scrapped and we lost investment,we lost the employment opportunities and tech transfer and also export opportunities.

yes we don't control prices of cocoa ,rice ,palm oil but neither does any other country making billions from exporting them

The reason why they wanted to remove the subsidy by June was because someone refineries will be operational by September
Let the local refineries start working to full capacity before they contemplate the removal of the subsidy!
Besides,Dangote will not sell his PMS at a cheaper rate unless he gets tax breaks/holiday or gets the crude oil at a reduced price!
Re: Fuel Subsidy: Nigeria Will Pay A Price, Borrowings May Continue – Femi Adesina by wordychap: 10:07pm On Jan 27, 2022
This govt should stop decriving themselvee.
Crude oil price determines price of petrol.
At a certain price of crude oil, no subsidy is paid for pms. Lower than this, nnpc makes profit from sell of pms. At a higher crude oil price, subsidy has to be paid for pms to remain 165naira but at this higher crude price, nigeria earns more because nigeria exports crude. It has always been a blessing to Nigeria when crude oil price goes up because the country earns so much more foreign exchange compared to what they have to pay for subsidy. But in buhari's government, nigerians most sufer/borrow when crude oil price goes up becausr they have to pay subsidy. Tell us what you do with the extra foreign exchange at high crude price.

But I thought Buhari said Subsidy is a scam?

And I remember Tinubu urchins re-echoing such then even though some of them knew it was a false statement.

Now they’ve been spending trillions of naira on the “scam” and struggling to remove the “scam”.
Even this subsidy they are talking about have been removed like two times undeer this government.
