If you are looking for the major motivator of 'get quick rich' mentality among teenager then you have not been listening to so called naija hiphop songs or been watching their music videos. These songs pass harmful messages and create vibes that can influence the aspirations of teenagers negatively. These songs promote three things.

Wealth without hardwork
These songs glorify already made wealth among teenagers and youths. They show youths with wads of dollar note in a mansion,
riding best cars without showing how the wealth was gotten. Some of the songs are prayers asking God to bless the singer with millions without explaining the legitimate business that could earn such. Some go a far as demonizing hardwork, while some outrightly praise yahoo fraud. For instance what message do songs like " shakiti bobo, Ferrari bobo", " I wanna be a billionare" pass?

Songs like 'I no go hustle till infinity but I go bubble till infinity" and " if you no get money, hide your face" glorifies wealth without hardwork.

Some songs like "Yahoozee, maga done pay and owusagi" have gone further to justify and glorify internet fraud.

Sex and women
If you mistakenly hit the bottom for naija music channel, you would think you are watching a porn channel. From Wizkid to Davido to Flavour and to Harrysong. They all show nudity and sing about sex than more useful themes. They paint "sexy women" as a prize for wealth without hardwork. Many upcoming artistes are doing this and teenagers want to have this prize too without working.

Clubbing and partying
Gone are the days when we listened inspirational songs or song inspired by people's experiences. Today, over 90 of non highlife secular music have party or club beats. Songs that only make sense to yahoo boys clubbers. As a 'normal' person, if you enjoy this songs you would want to go clubbing, were you order the best wine and have the light put off for you. How much more about teenagers who listen to these songs, watch the videos on their phones, and dress the way this singers do?

These songs are more accessible than movies. A lot of these boys don't even watch nollywood movies but have these songs as their favourite.

Tell them Op!!!

Enough of these ostentatious lifestyles (all faked, by the way) being daily promoted by those low-life, weed-smoking, lewd, largely depraved yeyebrities......enough of wanting to be a billionaire, of hopping into your Maserati, of mofe lowo ju daddy mi lo, of mofe wa Bugatti, dangote o Lori meji-mo fe gun Range o!!!! And of similar music!!!!!!
Nollywood is another bad influence....
So is lack of moral and morality education by both the schools and parents....
Churches that specialist in prosperity doctrines and other religious organizations who do no guidance to these little (and grown-up) ones are also to blame.......

The non-proactive governments and police service are also responsible...policeofficers still begging for money from commercial.motorists

A shame to their uniforms and offices!!!

Finally, I heap the GREATEST blame on the Judges!!!!! We only hear of arrests, never of convictions and sentencing.......they always let tyese matters cool down. They do nothing to stop them!!!

Imagine Promise David, the PH serial killer of 2019, Shodipe the Ibadan serial killer with shovel of 2020, Job-seeker, Iniobong's killer of last year, and so many others. Not one of them has been sentenced to death, not to talk of killed for their crimes.....
We only hear of arrests......

Watch it o!!! Till next year you won't hear anything about these kid-killers again!!!
Rotten and corrupt judges and judiciary. All they know is sit on election tribunals or divorce man and his wife!!!! Hefayah for them all, EXCEPT they repent fast.

And for police.....pls if you have any heart in you, kindly be proactive......ask these murderers questions about the babalawos or witch doctors that are asking these lazy idiots to bring human parts!!!
Make thorough investigation, arrest them, those wicked babalawos.Kill them. That's how you stop this barbarism!!!. That's proactiveness, not just scratching the surface by arresting these basterds only..

My 2 cents. (((Pls any body wey qu.....))))

Yestery I was in the Barbing saloon and MTV base was on.

I can say that within 1 hour they played songs about money, money, money.

Even Artist wey never blow finish don dey sing "when I be dey suffer dem no send me now I don get money dem dey find me"

At least the older generation artists like 2face, psquare, ruggedman, an others I can remember how they started, some were street hustlers before doing music.

But these new guys wey never even blow have already started singing about fantasy amount of money.

However, let's call a spade a spade, i am going through alot, why can't I do the same. Teenagers for that matter

I was in a terminal of one of the major transport companies and watched MTV base. For hours, all they showed was money, dollars, cars, Baba God don't bless me, half naked women and absolutely meaningless and irresponsible lyrics that can only inspire teenagers to commit crime.

This people influence our youths. The way the dress, what they think etc it's also (alongside social media) put girls under pressure to do all manner of surgeries to enhance their sex appeal and attract yahoo boys.

Lalasticlala, mynd44 OAMJ4 is this opinion not front-page worthy?

@OP, you are very right and correct to a large extent with this assertion. As a country and especially the Southern part of Nigeria, our values have been eroded in different ways and the government regulatory agencies need to do their jobs. In the past, we had censorship of most of what we hear and watch but these days, it's a laissez affair system that is totally corrupt and bereft of any control. The West (America etc) we are copying have managed to remain modest but we have copied only the bad out of the entertainment industry into our culture......... angry angry angry angry angry
