Instead Of Banning Cars Why Not Try This (opinion) by 3exe3(op): 1:01am On Feb 03, 2022
There has been a wave of banning university students from driving cars into campus, the reason for this though has not been known. But whatever the reason might be i think the universities are not making the right decision. They(universities) can take advantage of the rise in students car by generating revenue from it.

I came up with the opinion that those universities or poly or colleges who have extra space can use that space as a parking lot for students and create daily taxation for any student who wishes to park his car in school premises.

Such students must park their cars on the designated space for a parking lot until they are done with whatever business they have on campus, if it turns out there is not enough space to contain the cars anymore the best option i think is to increase the tax thereby discouraging some students but not all students.

what do you think?

Small small boys that don't know how to drive, they purposely drive rough to draw attention, some even scare pedestrians and start laughing inside their cars. Such idiocy shouldn't be accepted anywhere

Same as on the major roads but is reduced due to the presence of security agencies

What's stopping the schools from creating checks and balances for such

The school is meant to be a ground of innovation

They should learn how to solve problems not always being on the defense

No environment grows with such

they should now bring VIO and road safety to mount checkpoints inside campus or what? There are other more pressing issues in school than those. Schools just recently got a bit successful at flushing out cultism from campus and you want them to add another problem to themselves?

You argue like someone backwards earnestly... With respect to ur views tho...
The vices that come out of a particular sector doesn't mean u should shut it down overlooking its vast usefulness. I used my dad's car to school at times and I know how helpful it used to be based on the distance from my house to school before I got a place of campus. Same goes to other students. Election malpractice in Nigeria doesn't mean u should stop elections but create measure to control it. Same goes to student with cars.

students aren't allowed to wear some kind of clothes to school, they aren't allowed to operate phones inside lecture halls. Schools have their own rules. They have their own problems. Is it the same Schools that have not been able to build lecture halls to fully accommodate students that you want to add car park to the lists of their problems? There's nothing backwards in being realistic. They analysed the situation and make their own rules and regulations. You aren't smarter than a combination of 30 plus professors and numerous doctors of different academic professions who sat down, analysed the situations and came up with the resolution.

I still think it's sounds backwards to disallow students with cars... You talk about less class blocks and packing spaces... Thats not really an excuse.. if so,it should affect the staffs also. Some schools less than 30% drive daily(and it's even "in and out" thing) so that really not an excuse.
For the professors and intellects who sat to make judgements. It doesn't mean it can go without person bias. In my school that year there are so many crazy law that were in stated by so called intellectuals which were brutally opposed by students. I've even experienced student riots cause by this "situation analysis" by professors and lecturers as you say. They are not infallible as they seem and we know it.

You should have found out the reason first before coming to write about it here.
The reason they took that decision was clearly stated.
Safeguarding the society is far more important than making money.
Everything is not about money, as we see it in Nigeria.

I'm all for revenue generation but taxing young adults in uni for parking when they are not earning any money is a bit nasty

How about leaving the students that own cars the fuçk alone?

If they occupy parking space for lecturers, the school should reserve parking spots for staff.

Why do Nigerians only look for ways to exploit each other? It is the only thing we excel in

according to ABSU its due to a flagrant display of wealth i wonder what parameters they used in measuring that and yet someone above said because they are professors and doctors their decision should be trusted 100%
