His skin change was due to vitiligo. His autopsy confirmed the claim.

MJ did not bleach his skin. The vitiligo covered nearly all of his face and spread to other parts of his body.

The effect of the white MJ you saw was due to vitiligo and makeup.

I have read that it could be because his father was mean to him, and used to call him "Big Nose" when MJ was a child.

But MJ claimed the smaller nose made him carry higher notes, and helped his singing.

He lost his natural hair during an accident, and had to wear wig to cover his bald head.

All that with his bleached skin makes him look like a caricature of a white man.

You are very right on this.... When I was younger, I didn't know he was African. After I got informed about him and saw how strikingly handsome he was as a black African man prior to his facial and skin changes, I was disappointed.

I still didn't understand why a very handsome man would turn himself into a scary dollish monster all in the name of wanting to belong to a race whose DNA wasn't in him and didn't care much about him.
