If the machine was wrongly configured while loading the cash,if you want to withdraw N3000, the machine can dispense 1000 naira note 6pieces.

Have you ever heard something like "machine short paid"? ATM dey short pay, it happens to me twice , Ikorodu and Lekki.

ATM's do short pay or over pay, but these errors hardly come by & also depends on the ATM wrong configuration.
If a counting mechine can misbehave sometimes while not ATMs.
These machines needs constant maintenance from time to time.

These days that ATM don't give out transaction receipts. I'm sure if you didn't have the transaction receipt, the bank would have refused to listen to you.

There is. Because I remembered a day when I withdrew N10,000 free a popular bank in Jimeta-Yola. The machine rather dispensed a mixture of both genuine and fake currency I immediately moved inside the bank with my transaction receipt and surrendered the money dispensed by their machine. They immediately substitute the fake notes with genuine currency

In Nigeria you need to but in abroad no need...

Someone loaded condemned notes in the cassettes. Which is even bad because it can make the machine jam, just like mint notes. Used clean notes are the best for ATMs.

ATMs have never failed me since 2003. How many Nairalanders were born in the year? Not many. Technology also advances as years pass so there’s no way a system old enough to marry and have children as a person will get faulty anytime soon. Many of these people unsure of ATMs do not perform routine checks on their vehicles. Who then is fooling who?

The only reason I will count is to know if damaged note(s) is/are dispensed.. But I hardly do if I am to withdraw huge amount but anything less than 10k I just spread out like whot card to confirm the amount..
But one thing is that the machine takes record of every note dispensed and whoever is in charge will always know when there is a lesser amount dispensed to the customer.

I still do not trust the ATM to dispense accurately. Once bitten, twice shy.

Why in school, I've been once short paid by the ATM. I withdrew 3,000 Naira but it dispensed 2,500 Naira

As little as little as the money may sound, it meant a lot to me then.

Back in the old Skye bank then, tried to withdraw 10k,the machine gave me 19 500naira notes instead of 20. Sent them a mail and got my money a few days laters.

I still count.

Mthceeww the machine can hold ur money, but would never overdispence.
The person that created the machine must have some mentality of the blacks.

I once withdrew 30k from the ATM for my clearance in skl, didn't bother counting.
I went to the skl counter to pay, they counted 27k.
I went back to the bank to complain and everyone was looking at me like a mad illiterate man.
From that day, I threw my civilization away and started counting the money, I don't care wat the ppl in the queue say or see me as

A machine can over pay and underpay you. Mostly because of the mistake of the ATM custodians. Sometimes they mistakenly load 500NGN in 1000 ATM cassettes or vice versa or even slip in few notes of 500 in 1000 bunch.

Count your money right in front of the ATM camera then walk into the branch to complain if need be.

Bank dispense a fake note that is a criminal offense you could have take that bank to court mehn and cash out

I was at the Head office one day we=hen we heard report of an Asset Custodian who lost 4 or 7m (can't remember exact amount) . Dude loaded 1k notes in 500 cassette. So when client withdrew 2,000 instead of the ATM to give them 4 500naira notes, it was dispensing 4 1k notes.

Customers were calling other people to come and withdraw at the ATM cos the bank was doing bonanza.
Very bad experience for the dude involved. I think the bank converted it to loan for him to be repaying over a period of time.

It Is better you count your money , the loader might made a mistake of loading wrong cash into wrong cassette or program wrong notes into wrong cassette.. in this case your , your 5,000 withdrawal could be 2,500 physical cash and 5000 debit.

ATM once overpaid me, withdrew 5k, ATM paid 10k, it's not my bank ATM so i was scared of walking into the bank to make a complaint because I felt the error should be discovered during account balancing but nothing happened ooo.
Also when I remember the things wey ATM don do me, i felt that transaction was my own bonus.
I bought card for ATM (Skye bank), e no pay, using machine for recharge never popular then, na so i go banking hall to complain, the CC officer said "who asked you to use it"
Same bank machine debited me twice for UBA card, i go complain tire(3k each), one was reverted after a month, the 2nd enter voicemail.
Lost my precious hard earned 13k too to UBA as a result of fraud.
All happened around 2007/9.

A bank ATM once dispensed fake 1k note for me . If I had counted probably would have noticed it before leaving the ATM.

Even if you detect a fake naira note there the bank guys can still deny that it was dispensed from their atm. I know of a case exactly like that. Met a guy at an atm point lamenting that 1k note out of 5k dispensed was fake. I encouraged him to follow it up especially given that he was to deliver the 5k to someone and the fact that he had no money to balance up. Later in the day the guy called me ( I gave him my number to update me) and said he went inside the bank to lodge a complaint and they claimed they always double-check the notes before loading on atm. Back in his office, he reported the matter and it went up to the Cp. It turned out that the guy was a police man. He said the Cp immediately ordered the arrest of the bank manager. Mehn, come and see begging when the Cp threatened to order full investigation into the case. The guy had the 1k replaced. Looked like those bank officials were deliberately mixing fake with geniune notes.

My own case is different.. I have never been short paid by an ATM rather I was over paid.
Happened back then at a bank in front of my university main gate. I had just 5,300 in my account and I requested to withdraw the whole 5k. Funny enough the ATM took up to 4 minutes to count d money. I already gave up that it won't dispense..then booaahh cash came out, I took it and shifted one side to count and it was 6k. Whaaaat!!! I checked my debit alert and saw I was debited 5050 naira with balance of 250 naira. And 6k dey my hand, if u see d joy in me that day ehhh

Nigerians sha. I just knew the bank officials were involved. This country is filled with criminal minded folks.

I always do. Nothing in Nigeria is impossible.

I had this experience recently sef. I made withdrawal for 20k, didn't count it. Got home and realized I only had 19k. Was wondering whether I lost the money on the road or what
