The root cause is unemployment, if they can see a steady 250k job that would be the end of bombing. But you see yahoo boys that have picked 20k usd and above, forget about it! They won’t stop so except you know how you can give them jobs that pays 50k usd a year just forget about it. When Nigeria is ready to reward people for their hard work and pay them well cyber crime will end.

That is of recent. Yahoo has been in Nigeria since internet came to Nigeria, that’s late 90’s to early 2000’s. Undergraduates started joining when internet became cheap and that’s with the proliferation of cheap smart phones like techno and the rest and that’s late 2015 to 2016. This is a first hand experience talking to you.

I'm not being cynical or blasting you...the issue is who would provide the job opportunities? In a Nigeria where people want to be importers not producers? A Nigeria where we miss out on job creation in certain sectors like power and petroleum because we don't let them work profitably.

That’s just a stereotypical assumption. Crimes are classified as violent and none violent crimes. When you talk about crimes, some comes in unauthorized access to computer systems, obtaining under false pretenses, etc. So in terms of violent crimes, the victims always don’t have a choice and most lost their lives in the process. But in terms of later, victims always have a choice but because of ignorance, carelessness, or willful stupidity, most always fall victim even after all the awareness campaigns out there. I’m not supporting any other them, both are to be punished with severe punishment according to the law. But I as a victim, I prefer to encounter none violent to violent crimes.
