You are talking as if this is over. Invasion is the easy part, occupation is an entirely different matter. As the Yanks found in Iraq.

And as you say, with Russia having GDP almost the size of Spain, and those beefed-up sanctions, a serious insurgency is all Ukraine can do.

Russians don't have a poor economy, the Russians do not also purchase military equipment using US dollars.

The Russians have endured sanctions since 2008, yet they have significant military operations in Ukraine, Syria and now Ukraine again since then.

The Ukrainians never stood a chance against a neighbour that is widely considered to have the second largest military in the world.

Real life conflict is not a video game. This ynot Call of Duty.

Russia has a very impressive military, it took their army less than 48 hours to reach Kyiv. The operation by the military of Russia has been largely successful, with targets met.

The Russians have only deployed a fraction of the forces they have positioned for this military operation.

I've seen hundreds of Ukrainian POWs, some simply abandoned their posts and fled.

I don't think Sweden can defeat Russia. We haven't seen Russian EW capabilities thus far in this conflict, to their credit they have also minimized attacking areas with high civilian populations. A conflict with Sweden would be a different game entirely. They would employ more stand off munitions in that scenario.

We haven't also seen a lot of Russian UAV's in this conflict either.

I also think it is easier to attack a position than to defend it. Look at the war in Armenia.

Sweden's war doctrine is to defend against Russia, they even build their weapons around that. eg, their Airforce is designed operate on country roads on a team of less than 5 engineers per Gripen, they have a highly mobile navy as well. They know that Russia will go for military infrastructure when invading.

Ukraine didn't have recorn on the ground, they didn't have small ambush teams along the way with any kind of fortifications. The Russians literally drove to the outskirts of the capital with minimum effort.
At this point, they don't even need to attack it, they can simply blockage it and starve the population for the president to give up the fight and surrender himself.

It's always easy to defend your home group because you know the terrain better. All you need to do is to make them bleed hard to demotivate them.

it might come as a surprise but I don't play video games, being outside was always more of my forte.... Anyway my knowledge of military matters are solely out of hobby, hence Ive read several books from Mr Heitman, Col Stander, Mr Barlow, Sun Tzu(obviously!!) ect ect

Also my dad was a lieutenant in the SADF, My Dad's oldest brother a Captain, his other 2 brothers were NCOs and my cousin was a troopy.

So yeah.... Not call of duty bru

Depending on the mission. Their mission currently is gathering intelligence and supply the Ukrainians. They're in the country as we speak, probably dressed up as Ukrainians, they're not getting any air support because they're not there officially. If you have Javelins at this moment, you have all what you need.

I'm old enough to have watched the Iraqi invasion in 2003, the US projected a very large force and they really demonstrated military might, the explosions were massive, they pounded Saddam's forces 24/7 via the air. That was impressive! HOWEVER, the Iraqis resisted with their crippled military. It took days for the US forces to get to the capital.

It literally took less than 24 hours for the Russians to get to the capital.

No artillery fired by Ukrainians, no multiple rocket launchers fired on advancing Russian colomns, little ambushes. Not even a single bomb dropped on a target that was advancing on an open freeway.

Bro, you don't need to be a military general to know that the Ukrainians have 0 defence strategies.

They didn't have sufficient recon. I was watching a news report about the Russian crossing from Belarus, it seems like no one was sure on what was going on. The only footage they had was the border footage of a dozen Russians vehicles crossing, no one knew exactly how far the Russians had infiltrated the country. No one knew what the current direction was.... It seems like they were all shocked when they showed up at the outskirts of the capital.


The Russians had simply deployed a simple 2000-year-old tactic from the "Art of War" of deploying a decoy army on the eastern border and the Ukrainians fell for it.

The often over looked, but very crucial role the media, Western Main Stream media played in this conflict should not be swept under the carpet.

The American media, British media, European media all used their channels to push for war and military escalation. None of them wanted to tow the path of diplomacy or de-escalation.

It's really unfortunate. Should we now be sorry that the Ukrainians are getting bombed when the media pushed for this conflict.

Where was the empathy in Iraq, Afghanistan or Ukraine in 2014, even in Nigeria the Western media wanted the EndSars protest to lead to an overthrow of government.
