You got it wrong... It's only for political appointed positions and not for elective positions. Osibanjo, Umahi are elective positions holders, hence they are not caught up. Only the appointed position holders like ministers, commissioners and others are barred. Although, Buhari had rejected that section of the bill and he had a discussion, prior to his assent with both chambers' representatives to remove that section as it contravens our constitution and they agreed to remove it.
I think Buhari is trying to protect Emefele, Amaechi's interests

I thought the electronic transmission was most worrisome to some candidates, but the clause above disqualifies so many except they are willing to take a very huge career risk relinquishing their positions and access to state funds alongside without a guarantee to the slot, while electronic transmission further reduces the odd of winning..

It has always been my opinion that parties should be allowed to maintain their mandate after the death/deflection of a lawmaker.
..but I'm disappointed similar law isn't extended to deflections, especially serving governors and lawmakers.
