let me tell you a small secret. The clients won't appreciate a dirty artisan. It makes you look unkept, wasteful and crude.

If you can't keep the cement away from your body, how can you ensure that it will not extend to the windows and doors thereby creating a post cleaning wahala for the client.

All the cement on your body would have been useful on where they're meant for. If you spent all these on your body, which one go come remain for the work.

Some artisans leave site without washing and they still look neat. Why can't you be such artisans

How many cement I don rub for body e never reach one gallon . Cumrade lower your mic grin

This is exactly what they told me too but I don't know how true it is. Therefore, we must question the process. They said the surface must be rough plastered before tiles for proper adherence, being that block surfaces are relatively smooth. They could be speaking from experience or long held tradition of doing things. However, in research there are basically 3 knowledge areas to consider before any knowledge could be acceptable to be translated into practice; experience of the professional, best practice from reviewed sources and actual works (trails) that have performed under replicable condition.

In this case, it appears 2 out of the 3 translational criteria could be said to have been fulfilled. The third is missing. And this is a critical aspect The Bricklayer's experience and actual works done part is fulfilled. Therefore, additional information is needed from reviewed sources to draw conclusion on whether the practice is backed by informed knowledge, rather than tradition.

This is when you need people with PhD in Material Science. They conduct the research, and the work is peer reviewed and then published for translation into practice. This is to ensure effective and quality service delivery aimed at guiding standards, reducing cost and material waste.

Any answer you would get here now is going be one of those "na so we dey do am, e go work"

Why do you need an advanced degree in your field, this is it
why do you need to attend seminars in your profession. this is it
why do you need to invest in educational materials, eg online library subscription and your professional body magazines. this is it
Why do you need to join a professional body, this is it

I found this research article on the topic - Adhesion of ceramic tile block coating system on concrete wall by Camacho et al., (2020). https://doi.org/10.1016/j.conbuildmat.2020.118278.
The work in this article is very extensive. It looks into 4 events - tiles detachment, plaster detachment, wall rapture and noise emission

It is not an open source article, Therefore, can only be accessed through your library or purchased online.

I have the academic work by Camacho in case anyone wants to read it. Just send me a mail.

To go school good.

I started following you yesterday.

You drop a lot of sensible nuggets.

This is certainly one of them and which is why I told our artisans who aim for the top of their professions to join the trade body for their profession in the US, that's the very least they can do to stay on the cutting edge of whatever it is that they do.

I am not saying don't join the Nigerian association but as far as I know they don't invest in knowledge and new knowledge like their US counterparts.

Thanks for sharing

Heh. One project I was on, 70mm cable was installed as 95mm. They scraped the cable information from the insulation and restamped it.

Next thing, the cable was overheating in use and I could not understand what was going on as I had sized the cable properly.

We eventually used another vendor who replaced the cable and showed me what had happened.

And years ago during my it, we found cables being joined and sold as whole. The Joint is first point of failure for heavy duty applications.

Naija. You can NEVER be too paranoid.

It's very easy if they clean immediately after work ....

That's why it's better to do your pop before tiling

That's one of the advantages of Gypsum board over POP.

Hi, my good people.

Good afternoon. Thank you for all the advice you gave me.

I have a question, please. I bought power showers for my bathroom and my plumbers advised me to make the tank stand 14 Ft which I did. Despite this height, the showers' pressure is still low. The taps outside bring out water with high pressure but the power showers and kitchen rap dispenses water slowly. I mean the pressure is too low. The shower pictures are attached.

Please, what can I do?

Do another tank stand. Increase the height (24ft upwards)

OR you buy a surface - mount automatic pressure pump..
