SmartPolician:Sorry to ask this question, I am not asking to debase you but just to make it clearer for you. How old were you between 1999 and 2003? During this period, that was when OBJ was the president. The administration of local government was felt within the local government area. Everyone knew that there is truly a grassroot administration. If you cannot meet with the chairman, you can go meet your counselor, if you can't meet your counselor, you meet the supervisory counselor. That was how governance was closer to the people then but sadly the governors take advantage of the constitutional lacuna and hijacked the LGAs in their state and thereby crippled them. |

INEC should be conducting local government elections if they really want to deal wit the governors |

Now the greatest concern would now be state that have created LCDA with the constitutionally recognized LGA because FG would not give them monthly allocation. How would they survive? This will generate alot of friction between LGA Chairman and LCDA Chairman if asked to share his allocation with unrecognized local council. The question now, is what is the way forward? |

Goodmarlian:Can’t you see the structuring happening in front of you, or you still choose to dwell in your old cliche? |
| Re: Senate Passes LG Autonomy Bill by JOemmy(m): 3:43pm On Mar 01, 2022 |
The fulani north can easily agree to the autonomy of local council areas because they have more lgas in the north but can't agree to restructuring nigeria where states in the south can be able to control their God given resources. Parasites hiding under the unitary one nigeria to drain the resources of the south. |

| Re: Senate Passes LG Autonomy Bill by buckeyemedia: 3:45pm On Mar 01, 2022 |
IfnobeGod20:Under the new autonomy law, only constituencies recognized by the Constitution 1999 As Amended , I believe LCDA’s become illegal. States shall no more make laws for the Local Governments, real separation of Government. |
| Re: Senate Passes LG Autonomy Bill by libson001(m): 3:47pm On Mar 01, 2022 |
if so can INEC start conducting head of council and councilor elections |
| Re: Senate Passes LG Autonomy Bill by Parachoko: 3:48pm On Mar 01, 2022 |
IfnobeGod20:The state Government will fund the LCDA, federal allocation shall only be giving to the LG, sharing with LCDA is going to be unconstitutional. A local Government Chairman can even refuse to recognise LCDA |
| Re: Senate Passes LG Autonomy Bill by buckeyemedia: 3:51pm On Mar 01, 2022 |
Parachoko:Do you understand what the word autonomy means? States have no control over the Local Government anymore, so how do you create or fund an institution you have no powers over? |
| Re: Senate Passes LG Autonomy Bill by Parachoko: 3:51pm On Mar 01, 2022 |
buckeyemedia:Go check my comment again. |

Parachoko:Yeah you are on point, a slight misunderstanding. |

jacoik:Heavily depended on their Local Governments. |
| Re: Senate Passes LG Autonomy Bill by FreeStuffsNG: 3:55pm On Mar 01, 2022 |
Orinoco:Hmmm. You will be shocked to know that hose primary school pupils and fgc odi students that you teach are actually on the payroll of the LGA ![]() Some do not even know that their names are there until like when they get to SS2 or involved in community youth groups and when they know they continue to collect free money as absentee workers. It happens all over the country and has to stop to make this LGA autonomy truly make sense. |
| Re: Senate Passes LG Autonomy Bill by Nobody: 3:55pm On Mar 01, 2022 |
Goodmarlian:This is supposed to be step 1, next is to push for more and more resources and responsibilities on the lga rather than the state and fg |

12rev:Don’t mind that Goodmarlian, they see the transition occurring in front of them, yet they still choose to play Stevie Wonder? |
| Re: Senate Passes LG Autonomy Bill by Nobody: 3:58pm On Mar 01, 2022 |
FreeStuffsNG:Omor if we are paying taxes directly to these lga chairmen I think they would be forced to sit up tight or else.... |
| Re: Senate Passes LG Autonomy Bill by buckeyemedia: 4:00pm On Mar 01, 2022 |
12rev:Most urchin politicians vying for Governor, will be more interested in their Local Governments now, Which is how it should have been all along. This autonomous law removes a lot of powers from the state capital, Local Government Chairman & Councillor, na big position now. |
| Re: Senate Passes LG Autonomy Bill by saintmm(m): 4:04pm On Mar 01, 2022 |
This will be a good news but, subject to the provisions of the bill, then presidential assenting to it. Hope Nigeria will start her healing process now. |
| Re: Senate Passes LG Autonomy Bill by Thryphosa(m): 4:05pm On Mar 01, 2022 |
Congratulations to the LG chairmen. They should not embezzle public fund meant for developmental projects! They should better the lives of the rurals. |
| Re: Senate Passes LG Autonomy Bill by idahme(m): 4:08pm On Mar 01, 2022 |
FreeStuffsNG:How do they want to develop their LGA when they don't even live inside the state not to talk of the LGQ |
| Re: Senate Passes LG Autonomy Bill by buckeyemedia: 4:09pm On Mar 01, 2022 |
saintmm:INEC has announced election time table already, they will pass it on time, including the states, the President will assent, so they can all face politics that they love soo much. APC has a good campaign format, we kept our promise, we have started the restructuring of Nigeria. |

| Re: Senate Passes LG Autonomy Bill by Kamachicho: 4:24pm On Mar 01, 2022 |
idahme:With this new law hopefully they will learn to live within their LGA. I pray the law will stipulate the number of years one needs to live in a locality with evidence of living there before vying for any position therein. We will get there |
| Re: Senate Passes LG Autonomy Bill by Iortim234(m): 4:24pm On Mar 01, 2022 |
Thank God for that, let the free and fair election takes place in our local governments |
