Goodmorning guys,pls I worked on my '99 camry gearbox. Thereafter I used it only 4days and the issue of not engaging on reverse started but others engage and select well. If u put d gear on 'R' it'll be as if its on neutral but it'll show on d dashboard dat its on R. Wat could be d problem?

what did you work on, on the gearbox

its very clear that whatever you worked on caused the problem and what made you work on it

The gear was not selecting before,whether D or R so they changed the fibres and it started working but later d reverse stop working.

take it back to them if they manage to replace the clutches they should be able to sort out the reverse gear

Exactly dats wat am doing now. The guy was telling me something about reverse clucth fibre in d gear,I believe if my valve body is bad,it'll affect d whole gear selection not only reverse.

I'm very certain that your gearbox repair guy didn't change the reverse gear coupling fibres. Gearbox may have to come down again. Sorry.

Bro, i know the thread is old but please how did you eventually resolve the Reverse issue? Mine is currently going through the same issue now.

Yes. The gear was brought down and the "reverse cup" (as it was called by the mechanic) was replaced.

The best thing to do if you have the financial capability is replace the gearbox.

Camry 2012 gear box is about 600k. She is lucky

Gear works perfectly well.
The thing is, local gear mechanics are only doing a guess job based on their experiences working on few gears. Sometimes before you get the actual problem, you would have been made to throw different parts whuch will cost u a lot. Sometimes you ll realise you might have spent almost the same amount of money for a new gear or even more. You are not even sure how long the new part that eventually work will last since they might be substandard or might have gone through wears and tears

Secondly, gear isn't something you could test run before you mount it on the car, when it gets mounted and doesn't work, you bring it down again.. so, stripping the gear, coupling, bringing it down, putting it in the car... My brother, if u were present, u ll know the method puts lots of wears and tears on the whole mechanism. That's why u might end up spending much more.

The best is getting a new gear that you can guarantee it's functional. Except if u know u have a competent mechanic who knows exactly where to go and solve the problem at once.
