So this is based on the life of a cousin who relocated to nigeria briefly but is back in the uk to complete his masters. so we got to talking and this is the breakdown. so he had a studio apartment in osapa london lekki and total package including nepa light was part of service charge and lawma was part of it too, total package was 1.3 million annually. so this works out to in black market rate 1625 pounds a year. this works out to 32 pounds per week. and so in the UK the rent was 250 a week. the council tax ( their lawma ) is 20 a week and electricity is like 20 a week. thats 290 pounds a week compared to his lekki 32 pounds a week. so in essence in the UK his cost of living is 9 times what it is in nigeria. Isnt that amazing ?
You are not particularly bright. Your grasp of economic principles is childish and basic.
In the first, real estate is not a good measure of the citizens purchasing power. Secondly, in UK, Pleople earn in pounds. The best way to compare both nations citizen is to compare their poor or minimum wage earners. In the UK, minimum wage is 7.8 GBP per hour, converting this to Naira for a month would amount to 1.7 million naira as compared to Nigeria’s misery sum of 30k but in the UK these minimum earners are still poor, they cannot afford the luxuries of a luxurious home or flashy cars but they can live a reasonable and honorable life with basic essentials like good education, transportation and security guaranteed but in the Nigeria, the poor are not so lucky.

Lastly. A saving economy in which citizen save more than spend is a bad economy, GDP is calculated by how much citizens spend and not how much they save. Money saved does not help an economy as it does not encourage production but more importantly, a saving culture shows that the citizens do not trust their economy, thus the need for a rainy day fund and lack of investment opportunities

you are just the typical nigerian dummy. converting british money to naira as if it is naira that is spent in the uk. you have no sense at all.

Let me break it down for you.

Abroad, you pay for everything you enjoy. My rent in Barbados is $US952 a month (2 bedroom fully furnished). Everything covered (including Wifi). The food is expensive. I spend $300 a week on food alone. You need to see the small tomatoes sold for $6: very small. We buy tomatoes of $25 to be able to cook stew (as opposed to maybe N800 or N1000 tomatoes in Nigeria).

Yam is like $2.50 a kilogram (yes it is measured in kg here). So a tuber of yam that you buy N800 in Naija and be shouting it is expensive, costs like $8 - $10. But the wages here are much higher than in Naija.

A nurse earns the equivalent of $2,250 here a month. In Naija, that is nearly N1.3million a month. But what you get to spend here on that salary, will leave you very little as savings. So at the end of the day, things tend to balance themselves out. The only difference is that you enjoy amenities you cannot enjoy in Naija. Also, know that as a foreigner, you do not have the freedom to start a business the way you can do it in Naija. A work visa or student visa does not confer the rights to start a business (with some few exceptions).

So at the end of the day, you have to know what you are gunning for.

No, the low self esteem is on you. Your argument is laughable and you will live in self denial the rest of your miserable life. I do not understand how anyone in their right sense would compare living in the uk and Nigeria.

What did you smoke?

use your brain na, it is a comparative living cost analysis between two countries

Sticking to the topic.... this is about cost of living..... not standard of living. .... and specific to rent.. OP.... you can't look at cost in isolation .... it must be attached to something.... salary. Let's consider base salary .... minimum wage..... that of the UK.... and that of Nigeria. Similar studio apartment in similar neighbourhood..... ghetto/highbrow.... what is the annual rent including electricity? To make a fair comparison.... how many months does each have to work to pay that rent? Do the math.....I'm sure the conclusion will be very different.

If you are intelligent which I initially thought you were, you will factor in wages, feeding and other basics costs and see who's able to have more savings at the end of the day. You don't compare a minimum earner to an average income earner.
Can a min wage earner in naija live in the apartment in Osapa London.

It's obvious the OP hasn't lived in both places, that's why he's based his assumptions blindly

You are confused, your topic has no basis, but from all Inducations, it's assumed you were trying to buttress a point that the uk is a more expensive place to live in than Naija.

If you do this, you have to factor in wages and see if that compensates the high cost

brother stop being stupid na. you can compare cost of living between countries without salary entering the topic. its like you people cannot think in fragments. thats the benefit of schooling abroad, they teach you how to think in fragments. YOU CAN COMPARE COST OF LIIVING BETWEEN COUNTRIES WITHOUT TALKING ABOUT WAGES. APPLE COST X AMOUNT HERE AND Y AMOUNT THERE ETC ETC ETC. LEARN TO BE ABLE TO THINK IN FRAGMENTS. EVERYTHING DOESNT ALWAYS HAVE TO BE COMPREHENSIVELY ARGUED. YOU CAN ISOLATE AND EXTRAPOLATE AND FOCUS ON THAT

Congrats for schooling abroad. You are trying to inform people of the high cost of rent in jand compared to Nigeria. What's the essence of this comparism.

It's pointless having this conversation, you re too immature to have a conversation with, it's obvious you aren't exposed
