Rand is bolstered by the commodity prices and I see it strengthening in the short to mid term to even as low as R13 to the $....was actually in a Seed investment seminar this morning that stated the rand could theoretically trade at as low as R8 to the dollar at current commodity prices... But we all know there isn't enough demand for that to happen.

In the short term we will see inflation rise about 0.6-0.8pp.... Over all I'm quite optimistic that the Russia/Ukraine conflict has in fact opened more opportunities than Risks for SA.... What we don't want is an escalation of the war because then we are all fvcked but if its going to stay like it is now for a while that could mean a boost for the SAn economy

I learned a long time ago to stop worrying about the Rand and only use the bond market as an ZAR indicator. A strong Rand is good for only 2 things in the real economy: buying crude oil and machinery. Imports of high-end consumer goods and overseas holidays -for which a strong Rand always excites the chattering class -are secondary.

SA reported its largest current-account surplus on record last year as import demand was down due to COVID and the value of gold exports rose to the highest since at least 1960.

A weak Rand is good for exports - $1/R8 to R18 float (certain annual trips to N. America & Europe don't always coincide with business trips ) - as long as Eskom doesn't muck about with our manufacturing, and the commodity boom cycle holds.

To be honest, we fix Eskom, the ports, rail, provide some policy certainty in mining, manufacturing and agriculture, and I would actually become a full-fledged weak Rand proponent.

If you ever read my comments on the matter you'd know how I'm not pro anything. In fact I don't even care who wins this war, I'm literally on the southern tip of Africa minding my daily life. Even if all NATO countries nuked each other, I'd be the least affected in terms of nuclear dust. In fact I'll still get my A-grade wines and cheese because we produce them locally.

However, there's a lot of fake internet posts coming from both Ukraine and Russia, I will take posts with a pinch of salt - it's not double standards, it's being smart.

a sniper does his job , so does a counter sniper or a counter sniper asset whatever it maybe

even if a sniper is very well hidden there r ways to detect him eg optical locator (already posted it in technical thread ) can detect optical sources (scopes etc ) being used by a well hidden sniper

basically its a cat and mouse game , no one is supreme until he comes out alive

It has been a learning experience..at some point, alshabaab used to even poison water wells.Right now all water and food rations are sourced directly from the KDF food factory
