I’m not very good in Economics and all that but what I think is the South West states are given more loans just cause they have the ability to pay back (the IGR like you stated). Take for example, if the bank wants to borrow you money, they check your financial history and your ability to pay back. In conclusion, you may be wrong about SW states being overrated.
No

They borrow because the IGR is a hoax. Don't forget they also lead in FG bailout fund debt and has more numbers of States that cant survive without FG allocations according BudgIT

Their under-development cannot be over-emphasised....

Their region is the least developed.

Poverty has transformed into a physical form in yoruba-land; apparently they know this.
Every region in Nigeria needs help but SW is something else.

Their villages are something else

U have what it takes to repay the loans and yet there is an outrageous growth in your debt stocks...lol

South east isn't economically viable and yet only rivers, Anambra and lagos' being a melting point for all ethnic groups can fund it own budget successfully.

Don't mind them the only thing they onto is Lagos...As if left for them,Lagos will see any light.

Yorubas don't take responsibility and you guys lie a lot

Why not check the top 10 States in fiscal responsibility. Thanks for the internet, everyone is seeing through Yoruba lies.

Anyway that is not the argument. Why is SW heavily indebted despite claiming to generate the highest IGR

The tribe known to lack responsibility is igbos.... always blaming their external problems on others asides themselves. Also ask your stupid self why the United States is one of the most heavily indebted countries yet has a high GDP...... thriving societies are built on credit.

Check through all the SW states and see the heavy amounts they are borrowing yet they claim to be leading in IGR.

You can't claim to be leading in IGR yet you borrow like a broke drunk and there is no meaningful development in your state.

Ebonyi debt is 42 billion while Ekiti is 106 billion.

SOUTH WEST

Ekiti 106 billion

Lagos 659 billion

Ogun 233 billion

Ondo 64 billion

Osun 135 billion

Oyo 143

TOTAL = 1.34 trillion

Average debt per state = 223.3

SOUTH EAST

Abia 95 billion

Anambra 56 billion

Ebonyi 42 billion

Enugu 69 billion

Imo 205

TOTAL = 467 billion

AVERAGE = 93.4

South West is criminally overrated
Foolish people from your deserted region will still struggle and make sure you get to the region before your life can be meaningful..
Shame.

So why is Lagos such a gutter ghetto without water and no free education for all children?
Why is that so

itubaba001:
Lagos, the commercial hub of Nigeria, has been ranking as one of the worst places to live in the world for the nine straight years, a BusinessDay analysis shows.

Data from the 2019 Global Liveability Index published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the world’s leader in global business intelligence, shows the city has been within the range of 137th-139th position out of a total of 140 cities in the world from year 2011-2019.
Last year, Nigeria overtook India as the country with the largest number of people living in extreme poverty, thereby becoming the world capital of poverty, according to the Brookings Institute. This year, the number has risen to 91.6 million from 87 million in June 2018. Every minute, six Nigerians enter the group of extremely poor people, according to the World Poverty Clock.

Economic experts have blamed the rising population of Lagos putting more pressure on the available resources, low level of government reforms and rising poverty rate.

Yes, by your logic, the entire gross earning should be used to service debt and not fix infrastructure (capital expenditure) and salaries recurrent expenditure?

Lagos is not doing well if you compare debt to income.

If Lagos generates ₦460 billion from taxes (LIRS) collects all income for LASG.

Salaries alone for Civil servants is about ₦10 billion a month. Political appointees gets paid, Alphabeta, takes their share etc.

At the end of a fiscal year, Lagos State will not break even, that is why they have to still borrow and now owe close to ₦1trillion.

What Lagos is earning in a fiscal year is less than what they spend
