That was what was thought of Buhari too... And despite his arguably bad antecedents, the general expectation was that he was going to move Nigeria to an enviable position...Alas! He turned out a catastrophe!

So, my friend, you wouldn't know since Awo never became...just as we wouldn't have known had Buhari never become now!
Awolowo had an example to show ,free education, free healthcare, housing ,busary, buhari had none expect the short period he had in 1983 to 1985 .

Awolowo and Azikiwe requested for independence at least 20 years too early

But they meant well
Ahmadu Bello was more realistic when he admitted that the North was not ready for independence

With hindsight even the South was not ready for independence at the time
The southwest was ready for independence. A region that could have its own tv station before Spain and France was definitely ready. The north has always been backward, and Britain deliberately planted them to retard Nigeria's progress as a punishment for the guts of Awo and other southern activists to stand up to them (the f**king Brits).

The funny part is despite the Europeans stealing from us, they would have somehow still developed the oil industry compared to what we have now. Even the colonists in another country believed in development to bring profit. We Africans seek profit first before development in our own country. FEAR AFRICAN BUSINESSMEN.

Most things see on the island, most successful big companies you see at Ikoyi or Victoria Island, they're all handovers from Whites to Africans.
Check out what Britain did in Hong Kong naah. The place was developed like kilode. If those Brits had not left, Nigeria would have been far better than Dubai.

If Awolowo's style of development was adopted throughout Nigeria, the country would have been free from any political upheaval aside from the rapid grassroots development that would have taken place.

A nation cannot develop if development is not from the grassroots to the centre. The one Nigeria ideology where we try to unite a nation with vast differences was the beginning of Nigeria's death.

Mutual relationship with a loose government at the centre would have instil people's confident in their respective regional government, the fear of domination by the minorities wouldn't have been there.

When development becomes equally distributed to some extent, detribalization would have been easier. But look at where we are.
Well said. Thank you.

Awolowo was a victim of vicious betral by Azikiwe and the Igbos.

Azikiwe betrayed Awolowo because he couldn't become the Premier of Western region.

Azikiwe in partnership with the North led the Division of the Powerful Western Nigeria region into Mid-West ( Delta-Edo) to steal Crude oil of the West to the North and East using the ethnic Minorities as tools.

Awolowo premier of Western Nigeria region was building sky scrappers, building universities and industries while the North and East concentrated on Nepotism, Religious bigotry, Corruption and Military coups to steal the resources of the productive West.

Today the IGR of the West is stolen
Oil Wells stolen
Development stunted
Poverty very high
Seaport and resources all stolen and taken one way or the other by the North and East.

The Western Region must be restabliahed and the Constitution truncated by the East which is the Regional Constitution must be brought back.

Exactly, he was the only visionary leader Nigeria has ever produced. He would've been successful if not for his too much love for south west and regional politics.

This is what differentiates him and Tinubu. Unlike Tinubu flexible/accommodating style, Awo political ideology is too rigid, conservative, and meritocratic for the then corrupt military government to have confidence in.
The British did not want someone as intelligent and wise as Awolowo, a brilliant lawyer and prolific author of political books to become the Head of State of NIgeria. They were scared by his outstanding achievements as the first Premier of the Western Region. He gave scholarships to Yorùbá students to study overseas and prepared them for nation building. That is the why the Western Region is the most advanced region in Nigeria.

Actually, Buhari also had an example in that short period. His policies were bad, things got expensive , the economy was in the mud. People pointed it out to us then , but majority never listened. We were only obsessed with the disciplinary nonsense he displayed then, and the APC media team used it to overshadow his bad performance as a military head if state.

Infact, it was one if the reasons that he got overthrown as an head of state and only spent a very short time of 2 yrs.

Ian summary, the red flag was there , as regards his handling of the economy, but people ignored it, thinking that fighting corruption will automatically translate to good economy grin

"Awolowo recognized this and moved for a secession clause to be included in the new constitution BUT Nnamdi Azikiwe rejected it and even reported Awolowo to the British as a saboteur - infact he personally wrote section 86 which makes any move for secession a treasonable offense"

Question #1
Do you understand the word " rejected"? How did Azikiwe reject the inclusion of secession clause when he was not in charge of the process of determining the inclusion or rejection of the secession clause in the constitution?

Question #2

When did Zik personally write section 86?

27Pushing30:
1. We are backward because of the north … they did not want independence; the south did this from the beginning we were incompatible .

2. After enahoro moved the motion for independence in 1953… there were riots in the north with many southerners killed —- this was the first indicator that they (the north) were committed to being under British rule - Awolowo recognized this and moved for a secession clause to be included in the new constitution BUT Nnamdi Azikiwe rejected it and even reported Awolowo to the British as a saboteur - infact he personally wrote section 86 which makes any move for secession a treasonable offense!
https://pmnewsnigeria.com/2019/04/27/flashback-why-i-opposed-awolowo-on-secession-zik/?amp=1

Funny how Azikiwe later realized his ignorance during the civil war but it was too late.

I’m telling you that based on section 86 Nigeria can never break up unless the ENTIRE south wants it and are willing to shed blood for it… not SE , SS or SW individually but the whole SOUTH as an entity .

So NO we did not request independence too early … we only had one visionary leader- Awolowo - the others were ignorant

Amalgamation was in 1914, that was when the entity called Nigeria was put together.

Independence of Nigeria not Lagos or Arewa is what we are talking about here. The independence was [/b]a joint effort of the North and South
Why then are they screaming that they joined two unrelated regions together? The South and the North made efforts?

By the way, we don't calculate British colonialism when Nigeria came into existence. We calculate it when the influence of British imperialists started in the areas now called Nigeria.

The British found oil way way back. So you think Oloibiri story is true? Go and read.
There is oil then there is oil. Oil boom in Nigeria occurred well after the British left. And even first measly oil production in 1958 occurred well after the British had already committed and promised to leave. If it wasn’t for the oil boom Nigeria would have gladly let Eastern Nigeria go or at least have a confederation. East would not have been worth fighting for. Same way, if Britain were in charge when oil boom arrived they would NEVER have left, unless they totally detest tons of cash, which we know they don’t!
