Christistruth00: 1. We are backward because of the north … they did not want independence, the south did this from the beginning we were incompatible . 2. After enahoro moved the motion for independence in 1953… there were riots in the north with many southerners killed —- this was the first indicator that they (the north) were committed to being under British rule - Awolowo recognized this and moved for a secession clause to be included in the new constitution BUT Nnamdi Azikiwe rejected it and even reported Awolowo to the British as a saboteur - infact he personally wrote section 86 which makes any move for secession a treasonable offense! https://pmnewsnigeria.com/2019/04/27/flashback-why-i-opposed-awolowo-on-secession-zik/?amp=1 Funny how Azikiwe later realized his ignorance during the civil war but it was too late. I’m telling you that based on section 86 Nigeria can never break up unless the ENTIRE south wants it and are willing to shed blood for it… not SE , SS or SW individually but the whole SOUTH as an entity . So NO we did not request independence too early … we only had one visionary leader- Awolowo - the others were ignorant 15 Likes 1 Share |

yemmit90: I like your view, you've reasoned well. But let me add that he was right to have shown his total love for his people: if he had not developed the old western Region, from which Mid West was later carved out, how could he have been acceptable to the whole country? All over the developed world, your allegiance or loyalty to your country starts with your love and loyalty to your nation or state. How can you love the United Kingdom if you don't love England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland as the case may be? That was a man who first stated that Nigeria would not develop if the problem of the north was not first solved - illiteracy and general backwardness among the poor masses of the people of the Northern Region. That some elements in the north were against. Olooto ilu oun ni ika ilu where wickedness is bound in the hearts of men. He believed so much in his socio-political philosophy - A sound mind in a sound body - which would have helped Nigeria a lot. It is pathetic that those who claim to belong to his socio-political school today are rogues, thieves, generational pests, etc. They have destroyed everything the man stood for and represented. 6 Likes |

Cromagnon: Dont mind them they are lying to themselve in the EAST their parent contributed so much for the hatred Yoruba and Igbos have for each others up till today because they refuse to tell them the truth about the story they are just angry that yoruba did not support them during the civil war but failed to tell their children how ZIK betrayed AWO to form alliance with the NORTH which made him FIGURE HEAD PRESIDENT 8 Likes |

yemmit90: I'm not sure I understand what you mean by 'too much lobe for the SW and regional politics'. Awo was as Premier was a regional leader and he was loved by his people. His popularity amongst his people is what his adversaries call regional politics. You can claim a man that was never given an opportunity to play at the centre loves regional politics. His vision was bigger than the region, but he was never given the opportunity. 5 Likes |
