Okpoko Clean Up: Anambra State Government Begins Marking, Over Two Hundred Structures To Be Removed

In line with the Governor Chukwuma Soludo-led administration's urban renewal effort in Okpoko, Ogbaru Council Area, its environs and the state in general, an enforcement team led by the state Physical Planning Board today, began marking of structures for removal in Okpoko.

The enforcement team was led by the Executive Chairman of the Board, Barrister Chike Maduekwe.

Armed with the Master Plan of Okpoko, the team sited the area from the Second Niger Bridge.

In the process, it was established that over two hundred structures are blocking the road, drainage and water way, thereby preventing successful emptying of flood water into the Niger River.

Okpoko, a sprawling slum which has a population of over a million, sits on the east bank of the Niger River just north of the larger city of Onitsha.

The clean up exercise is one of the major deliverables of Soludo's plan to make Anambra a liveable city.

Barrister Maduekwe explained that the major challenge in the area is that many people blocked the waterway especially the Sakamori drainage, saying that when it rains, it stops water from emptying into the Niger River, causing flooding with its attendant damages

He revealed that the Governor has given instruction to mark every house on the waterway and give them notice to remove by themselves, stating that if they don't remove those structures, government will do so and charge them for the expenses.

The Chief Surveyor, Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Somto Atuenyi who pointed out that his mission is to be a guide, said that the board remains focused and committed to the mandate. Lalasticlala

Some of the residents expressed joy that the Governor has kept his promise, praying God to help him complete what they described as genuine desire to transform the state. Seun

You will recall that true to his promise, Governor Soludo Visited Okpoko on the 18th of March, 2022, a day after he was sworn in as Governor, where he performed on the spot accessment of the area.

I don't believe there are shanties in Anambra. angry

So who are occupants of the shanties?

Because the last time I checked, 98.89% of Anambrarians are billionaires with at least 3 mansions each. The remaining 1.11% are millionaires with about one or two mansions. So who is living in shanties?

When it comes to Anambra state...individuals who build houses do as they like..some divide the roads into two and build the fence on it. Some build and channel drainage to the road.

Very bad

Onitsha Clean Up is real.

Anambrarians must join hands and help Soludo provide solutions to numerous issues setting us back as an industrious state and one with present and future billionaires.
We must all kick against foreign mercenaries that wants to set our state on fire because of envy disguised in freedom fighting.

God bless Anambra!!

Peter Obi raised the bar of leadership in Anambra and became the yardstick with which every governor is judged.

Obiano was a wonderful governor when compared to people like Ugwuanyi, Ikpeazu, Yahaya Bello and Dapo Dagboru of Ogun state, but Anambra people weren’t happy with him because they compared him with Obi and he was below par.

Let us allow Peter Obi to raise the bar of leadership in Nigeria; from where we can never have it lower.

Show me one area that looks like this in Osogbo and I will modify my post. Don't go and show me a house owned by an Igboman in Osogbo, that doesn't count here.

Peter Obi foisted Obiano on Anambrarians, and made sure Soludo did not emerge.

Soludo is already proving to be far better than Peter Obi, in spite of having access to fewer resources

Useless comment. You afonjas are worst in terms of having slums, shanties and useless brown roof rusted ancient houses. Hypocrites

Peter Obi the son of a liar was the least of all the Governors. Peter Obi is a fraud. During his Administration, medical doctors in Anambra were on strike for 13 months because he was owing them salaries and were lacking in adequate infrastructures to work with.
We are only waiting for the liar to officially declare and win the PDP ticket before we start exposing his ass. He will collect his receipts.

Good question, Bro

The occupants of the shanties are people like you, from poor states, who could not afford anambra houses & standard of living. Ananbrarians construct such structures so that poor you can see where to sleep at night, and wake up the next morning to continue their street begging & suffering menial jobs.

This is exactly how elrufai started- he called it Kaduna Urban Renewal. We all know how that went down, he was called all sort of unprintable names by people hailing soludo for doing same thing here. Thank God he got the job done nonetheless.

I wish soludo the best
