With the rising cost of everything in the country, by now we can all agree that a high-end phone costs a fortune so the last thing you need right now is to lose it to criminals. But what if I told you you can make it impossible for a thief to get away with it and have no choice but to dispose of it or return it? Listen attentively because this can save you a great deal of money and make it easy to track your phone in the future.

Before I begin, please this only works with iPhones so if you're using an Android phone you can leave now grin I will break them down into tips.

Tip 1: Disable Access to Control Center from the lock screen: When a criminal snatch your iPhone, one of the first things they do is try to turn it off so you don't start calling them and try to track it down. They can put your phone on airplane mode. That way calls won't come through, your data connection will go offline too so you can't track it easily.

But if you Disable Access to Control Center from the lock screen, then they can't put it on Airplane mode so they have no choice but to remove your sim card from your phone to make it go offline. This takes me to the second tip to prevent this from happening!

To Disable Access to Control Center:

1. Launch the Settings app on your ‌iPhone‌ or ‌iPad‌.
2. Tap Face ID (or Touch ID) and Passcode.
3. Enter your passcode if prompted.
4. Scroll down and turn off the switch next to Control Center.

Tip 2: Register and activate your eSIM: Most people don't know this but high-end recent iPhone models support 2 sim cards. One physical sim and an electronic sim. Am sure MTN supports eSIM, not sure of other networks. Go to an MTN retail store and tell them you want to register an eSim and they will help you do it. This eSIM will act as a security firewall when they get rid of your main sim card after stealing it. The eSim cannot be removed so you can still call it continuously and force them to abandon it. You can even send data to your eSIM that way It can connect to the internet and help you track it with find my iPhone. For this to work remember you must always leave mobile data turned on at all times. They can't turn mobile data off from the control center so you are safe.

Tip 3: Enable Emergency Bypass: Remember that side toggle button on every iPhone that you can use to switch it to vibration mode easily? They use this to put the phone on silent mode when getting away. But with emergency bypass, you can set some contacts to ring out loud if they call your phone even if it is on vibration the phone will still ring out regardless grin. Now ask one of your emergency bypass contacts to keep calling your eSim phone number continuously and it will ring like crazy even if they put it on vibration. This alone can make the thief drop that phone and go away but if they choose to not drop it you can track it down to their bedroom with the help of the eSim.

To Enable Emergency bypass

1. Launch the Contacts app on your iPhone.
2. Tap a contact you want to add to the emergency bypass.
3. Tap Edit.
4. Tap Ringtone and then on the next screen toggle the Emergency Bypass switch to the green ON position.
5. Tap Done to finish.

Tip 4. Deactivate your SIM Immediatly: I get it your phone is important to you but your bank account could be worth more. This should be the first thing you should do. The thief could do a lot of harm to your pocket if they have access to your sim card and wipe your account. With your sim card, they can also attempt to reset your Apple ID password and turn off find my iPhone. Call your Network provider and they will help you deactivate your sim card.

Tip 5. Make sure you set up your Apple ID: Am not going to stress this because this is the first thing you will do before you can download any app. By setting your Apple ID it automatically turns on find my iPhone which brings me to the last tip.

Tip 6. Turn on Find My Network: Find My Network enables the iPhone to send its location to you even if it's switched off. It does this by communicating with any iPhone within range with Bluetooth and it does this even if it is off. Please note that this feature is only supported on iPhone 11 and above.

To enable Find my network:

1. Head to Settings and tap on your name
2. Then, tap on the Find My option
3. Now, tap on Find My iPhone and turn on the toggle in front of it
4. After this, look for the option Find My network and enable that as well.
5. Also, check to Send Last Location option, this will send your iPhone’s last location to your Apple account when the battery is low.

IF you do all this and your iPhone gets stolen you can recover it in a few hours because it will remain online unless it gets disassembled and an average thief does not have the technical knowledge and tools to attempt this process. Also remember time is of the essence so you need to act fast. Report to the police and do what you can to get them to follow you and track down the criminal ASAP before they try to take it apart.

This is amazing
Most times , they target the sim card so they can wipe out the person's account, so using a SIM pin is also important.
Or you can keep ringing the line to disrupt them, while using another to call your bank to block the sim.
Most sell stolen phones for parts, they dissemble it as soon as it gets to their base making it almost impossible to track. Their new target is the Sim card

You will need to visit their office again to register another eSim on it. You can't just swap it when you like.

No be by force to use iPhone na.

Any phone can be stolen, including iPhones.
Best case scenario, it will be useless to both the thief and the owner. But the thief can still sell the parts like screen.

If you like lock it with heavenly padlock, a stolen phone is gone unless you find it by luck or through tracking. It's not like the thieves will bring it back to you if they can't unlock it. They'll just sell the parts off. What the op wrote is just how to make the phone useless to the thief but not It's parts. It is even better they can unlock it so that tracking would work and you can at least get your phone back. Only the e-sim feature makes sense but then they can still switch the phone off and sell the parts. Even some Android phones can be disabled to be useless to the theif. A very good example is Samsung lost mode lock.

Stop judging android phones by all these transsion phones and the likes. Get updated. Android manufacturers
too have come up with strong disabling locks. Even find my iPhone can be turned off although very expensive. So rest small.

Can’t I just turn the phone off completely and sell it for the parts later?

This post aged really quickly, Samsung and other android devices are even more secure than Apple as of today they support eSim. I have an S22 ultra with an eSim, to turn off the device you will need to enter the password. But on iPhone you can just turn it off.

If you flash the phone the eSim will not be erased, same with iPhones. You’re literally stuck with the original owners sim on your phone.

The OP suggested ringing the phone but I think that would be a stupid move, let the thief remove the physical sim, use the eSim to help the phone remain online then track it but please go with the police. When you’re at close proximity to the device location then you can start ringing the phone to expose the thief.

Here are some tips to make it almost impossible for a thief to get away with your phone:

Set up a passcode or biometric authentication: Use a strong passcode or biometric authentication (such as Face ID or Touch ID) to secure your phone. This will prevent anyone from accessing your phone without your permission.

Enable Find My Phone: Turn on the Find My Phone feature on your phone. This will allow you to locate your phone if it gets lost or stolen. You can also remotely lock or erase your phone if necessary.

Avoid leaving your phone unattended: Keep your phone with you at all times, especially in public places. If you must leave your phone unattended, make sure it is secured in a safe location.

Use a phone case with a wrist strap or lanyard:
A phone case with a wrist strap or lanyard can make it more difficult for a thief to grab your phone and run away with it.

Keep your phone out of sight: Avoid using your phone in public places where it may be visible to potential thieves. If you need to use your phone in public, keep it close to your body and out of sight when not in use.

Install a security app: Consider installing a security app that can track your phone's location, remotely lock or erase your phone, and even take a picture of the thief if someone tries to unlock your phone with the wrong passcode.
