'm pretty sure they knew it wasn't going to be easy to join NATO. I'm pretty sure they knew that it was how to cost them some price. I guess they must have felt that they were equal to the payment of that price, that's why they went to war with Russia the first place. They deserve all these destructions because they called for it.
