Suspected gunmen, Monday morning, killed the Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Atakumosa-East Central local government of Osun State, Chief Gbenga Ogbara.

It was gathered that Ogbara was shot dead inside his sitting room in Igangan, his hometown at about 12am.

Ogbara’s remains have been deposited at Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa the source hinted.

Opalola said: “The APC Chairman was killed around 12am by some gunmen. Policemen have since been deployed to the area. The investigation is ongoing on the matter. The criminals will not escape justice.”

This idea of tagging every gun totting criminal as unknown gunmen is getting out of hands. Why not just call them by what they are. Eg, hired killers/assassins, political thugs, armed robbers, terrorists, you know. Not just lumping them together as unknown gunmen. Are they supposed to be known before? Like you're expected to know that your cool neighbor with a wife and 3 kids is an assassin? Calling them unknown gunmen denies us of the chance of pinning down the real motives behind those acts of criminality. That nomenclature, like every other thing in Nigeria, has been thoroughly abused
