I have been a Chemistry and Mathematics teacher for years now.

Then I met a friend who is a retired Government officer. He took interest in my kind of person and promised to link me up to opportunities that are better than teaching.

He called me yesterday and I went to see him. He presented two job opportunities before me;
1. A shopping mall manager (at Ring road in Benin city)
OR
2. As an assistant manager with a Private firm that supplies passport booklets to Immigration officers. I will be working directly from NIS Headquarter.

He gave me a week to make up my mind and choose an option

Please my questions are;
1. Will it be wise to dump years of teaching for these new opportunities?

2. Are the opportunities viable and worth the transition?
Which of the two options should I go for if I were to choose?
And what benefits does one stand to gain?

Take the shopping mall manager if the pay is higher than the teaching... More money and opportunities will come your way in that part...

Just weigh both options with reference to salary difference, proximity to your abode, convenience, job security, and personal fulfilment.


But like we say, never test the depth of a river with both feet. You should continue imparting in the lives of children till you secure the better job of the two mentioned.

I think the first question you should ask yourself is " why do I want a new job?"

Is it because of money?

Or just to get a whole new experience (people do this). Especially since you said you've been teaching for a while.

Do you want the job because of the prestige that comes with it?

If you can sincerely ask yourself why you want the new job, your answer will pop up. Nobody will bear the consequences for you or enjoy the benefits with you. So it's your decision to make. You can only be guided

1. Money (salary)
2. Income (salary + side hustle - cost of TP and Feeding)
3. Networking
4. Effect of the job on your CV
5. Location and transportation stress
6. Passion (not always important)


Money and your CV should be your number one priority

So if the teaching pays well and u plan growing in d career to a prof level, you can stay

But you're a lucky man, in this country you see someone give you 2 job offer

Firstly, why do you want to change job, secondly check the one with Job security among the two and finally i think the passport producing company make sense to me

And lastly teaching jobs will always come, so if you go for this and regret it, you will always get another teaching job...

So i think you should consider the one with the best income ( salary - TP and feeding)
The one with better connections and has best impacts on your CV..

Go for the the second option Assistant Manager

If you don't know how to steal and cheat and receive curses, and if your jaz no strong stay away from Immigration job to avoid he was healthy and went in and couldn't wake the next day. Go for managing job in Mall if its pay is higher than that of your teaching job.

The only way to survive in this country is to be able to eat where you work. Hell, all our leaders do it!


Go NIS bro, even if na chinchin you dey supply them. The possibilities are endless as to making side money from that position compared to the shopping mall job. If you really have a passion for teaching, follow your heart. If you no want make sapa wreck you, make some money now that you're still young.
