I was there the day he called him asking if he can use him as his next of kin for his NHS, and it just took me by surprise cos normally how can you be married and ask your cousin if he can be your next of kin?
This cousin is married and he isn't his next of kin, then he said he'd fill my name in when he gets to the hospital. He brought the form home yesterday and I saw he actually used his cousin.

Does he realise that means his cousin will also be the one to make medical decisions on his behalf should be incapacitated in any way? Basically he might end up in hospital and you might not be able to see or support him if he's not in a position to give consent for you to do that. Hopefully you can both have a discussion and come to some conclusion on this. I do find it weird and bizarre that he'd do that.

Good morning, elders.

Can I drive in the UK with my regular Nigerian driver's licence?

Gov.uk (attached) states I can use my country license for 12 months. But words on the street say one must have a Nigerian International license NOT the standard license to drive in UK.

Biko, which is the case here?

The certificate is still valid, just the organisation that changed name due to Brexit I heard

formerly known as NARIC ke?

For those of us that used UK Naric statements, do we have to re-order again ? maybe for spousal visa extension?

My understanding is we can use same UK Naric statements we used when we came in on initial spousal visa for example

Thank you. Can I use my brother who is based on Nigeria?

Next of kin is different from beneficiary. But since we are putting next of kin in context here as someone that will get benefits. I will say trust begets trust, if he does not trust you enough to use you, be the first to show trust by using him, explain what it means and show him it is for the good of the family.

Some people don't use their spouse (mostly when there is no child yet) because they feel the spouse will take the money to his/her own family or use it to marry another person and the new partner will be the one to enjoy their labour. Before I got married, I wasn't using some of my brothers as next of kin because they hardly pick calls but I use them as beneficiaries.

The oga kpatakpata of them all is Will.

I’m sorry to say, but oga you just said absolutely nothing. So why do people get married if you can’t trust your spouse to make decisions on your behalf in times of emergency or even be a beneficiary of your will.
Like others said, I’ll advise the lady to have a heart-to-heart discussion with her husband and let him know how his action made her feel.

I think the payments are monthly or so. If you check your account you will see where it shows the pending bonus amount... I would start worrying after April end or early May...

look up tsohoboy’s post about the process and the post with the link to booking the appointment for biometrics.

Can you please confirm the spelling of his name? I tried searching but it’s not bringing any result. Better still, if you can send the link please. Thanks

Another difference is one needs NIN to obtain the new enhanced e passport. Give it at least 3 weeks from the date of NIN capture to receive NIN slip in your email before proceeding to do passport biometrics.
If you knew your nin from your bank in Nigeria, better for you
Otherwise it is 40 pounds for adults and 30 for children

Good evening my boss in the house, me and my wife entered UK in February this year and we have been trying to check our credit score. I was able to get my own using Credit Karma application but my wife own is not coming up. She has used the application and also check from her bank (Llyods Bank) but nothing is coming up. Is there any app she can use to get it?

Does she have credit card, registered to vote, store card, phone contact etc ? She shouldn’t worry about credit score just 3months in the UK

Don't harbor any negative thoughts about your husband using his cousin as next of kin as his intentions may not be sinister but innocent.

Why not ask him why he didn't us you as next of kin and don't tun it into a fight so that he can tell you the honest truth.

As he stated his cousin as next of kin to the NHS and If he doesn't work for the NHS, then there obviously is no money coming to anyone from the NHS in case the worst happens.

It could just be because his UK based cousin has been in the system longer than both of you and your husband innocently thinks it is better to use someone who has been longer in the system as next of kin but whatever you do, don't harbor grudges against your husband and better to ask him why he didn't use you in a non confrontational and non accusatory tone / manner.

Your young marriage is more important than putting it on the line for what may just be an innocent action.

2 wrongs don't make a right and moreover If you need an operation on the NHS and they need someone to sign the consent form, your brother in Nigeria can not sign the form.

Note that unlike in a life insurance form, there is no money coming to anyone regarding an NHS consent form as its just a case of who the UK hospital will contact in case that person say for instance needs a consent form to be signed in case the person is maybe unconscious and needs an urgent operation so they need someone based in the UK to give them that consent by signing the form before the operation proceeds.

Also, don't fall for the bad habit of doing tit for tat or revenge in a marriage if you want your young marriage to last.

The UK has its own stresses that daily threatens ALL marriages. Don't add revenge to it.

Speak openly about your concerns to him in a non heated way and tell him how you feel.

Let's say something bad happens to your husband at work and is due financial compensation.........

His cousin gets it all (let's hope he gives you all or a share )..... cheesy

Does he not trust you....... grin

Do you spend all monies available, on designer wears and turning up ........... tongue

Your sense of humor is top notch grin. That analogy cracked me up so bad

I don't know if its a trust issue or if they are just used to not using spouse.... I am doing some work with 3 Nigerians who are married. I noticed they put their little child or some other person , one who is like one year old as next of kin. ..... a bit different to me but I noticed all 3 of them didn't put their spouse. I didn't ask because its none of my business

But here .... why would I put my minor child as next of kin when my hubby is there . That very odd to me but to give you some comfort ,your husband is not alone in this. Time here will change that mindset ... but I think u should talk to him

I think this stems from trust issues Sha but I'm used to seeing women use their kids on financial documents while the husbands use their spouse. Sadly, what majority don't realize is that God forbid anything goes wrong or there's benefit to be given to one's next of kin, those who use minor end up leaving their finances in the hands of any greedy lion around such kid(s) who is/are minor.

No COVID test, but ensure you're vaccinated. They only asked about your vaccination before leaving Nigeria. After that, nobody would ask, not even in Doha. I used them last week
