A four-day working week trial will officially begin in the UK from June 1, giving all employees the option of an extended weekend with no loss of pay.

Sixty firms with 3,000 staff have signed up to take part in a pilot run by campaign group 4 Day Week Global - and it will run for six months.

The scheme is based on the idea that staff will get 100% of their salary for 80% of the time, and hopefully maintain 100% productivity.

It comes amid growing interest in the potential benefits of giving workers an extra day off.

Companies that have signed up to the trial range from large marketing firms to charities and breweries.

During the pilot, the businesses will work with researchers to record the impact on productivity.

They will also track worker wellbeing and the impact on the environment and gender equality.

Should the four-day week be made the law? Let us know in the comments below

Atom Bank become one of the most recent adaptors of the four-day week last year when it moved to a permanent long-weekend without deducting pay.

Instead of reducing employees' hours, it made the four working days longer.

Some companies have trimmed hours down to give workers permanent 32-hour weeks with no loss of pay.

Internationally, in August 2019, Microsoft Japan implemented a four-day week giving 2,300 employees five Fridays off in a row.

The company said productivity jumped 40%, meetings were more efficient, and workers - who were also happier - took less time off.

In Iceland, a four day working week trial was carried out between 2015 and 2019 and labelled an “overwhelming success” by researchers.

Workplaces that took part, including hospitals and schools, moved from 40 hour weeks to 36 or 35 hours with some reporting an improved level of productivity among employees.

The trial eventually involved more than 2,500 workers, equal to approximately 1 per cent of Iceland's workforce.

Mechionu.

Most of these countries have been practicing 4-day weeks since many years ago. UK started their trials since last year. They will implement it by this year ending or next. Has nothing to do with Russia.
