Many ambitious Northerners who cannot vie for VP or president now will prefer 4 years Southern presidency. Enough time for them to be ready.

Northern first and foremost interest is getting a Southerner they can trust to handover to the North again later. GEJ did so in 2015 and the North might reward him for it. They rewarded OBJ in 1999 for handing over to Shagari in 1979.

Southern politicians don't think that far back or ahead into the future but Northern elite do.

WHY GOODLUCK JONATHAN CAN LONGER CONTEST IN 2023 :

On the 26th July,2017,the Nigerian Senate passed a Bill to amend the Constitution.

The House of Representatives, was to to give its concurrence to the same Bill on 3rd ,October 2017.

And the President, Muhammadu Buhari, assented to it,on the 11th,June 2018 to make it an Act.

That Act is now referred to as the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 ( 4th alteration,No.16) Act, of 2017.

This Act altered section 137 of the Nigerian Constitution by inserting a new sub section.. . .section 137 (3) of the 1999 Constitution.

It provides as follows:

× A person who was sworn-in to complete the Term for which another person was elected as President, shall not be elected to such office for more than a single Term.

Goodluck Jonathan, having been Sworn-in to complete the tenure of President Yaradua,upon his death; and having been elected thereafter, for a period of 4yrs that ended in 2015, can no longer contest in 2023.

He is now Constitutionally barred.

So,all those who are calling on him, including those youths who purportedly stormed his office few days ago, to beckon on him to contest in 2023, are doing so in futility.

It appears that even President Jonathan, including his handlers, are unaware of this provision of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

He is ineligible.

A big shame for a former failed President to ĺeave his former party for a new party and still want to contest for Presidential nomination.

This is only a shame on APC that this kind of news abi na propaganda is even going round meaning there is an element of truth in it. Very soon now, most of them in PDP will go ⁸over to the APC then scatter the APC and go form another opposition party and that same circle get repeated over and over again.

No shame in this political circle hence I will propose that any politician jumping ship shouldn't be allowed to hold any appointment or even contest for a given period of time ( say 4years).
