People on Nairaland, Twitter and Facebook say that the street lights in Ibadan have not been functioning because the Oyo State Government has not been able to buy diesel. Blue Camel Energy is a company that has installed solar street lights in many cities in Nigeria. They made a proposal to the Oyo State Government to deploy solar powered street lights in the state, but the proposal was not accepted. Blue Camel has now taken to Twitter to criticise the Oyo State Government's decision to power street lights with diesel generators. Blue Camel Energy @bluecamelenergy Blue Camel Energy made a submission to Oyo state Govt. 3 years ago for the deployment of its 5years warranty Solar Street lights, the like of what we executed in Jos, Kaduna, Gombe, Owerri & currently on-going in Yola. They are trying to light up Oyo o. I know of some that are being powered by solar in Oke-Ogun, Eruwa, Saki area & others. They are all powered by solar. Who go use diesel in this owolowon epo solar powered technology? That Blue Camel abi Blue Boat Butter company is jealous. And it's jealousy that ll kill them. If I m Oyo State Gov, I won't patronise them. Why should a state government sign off on using desiel generators to power ordinary street lights? Of course someone has to make money out of the desiel and generator maintenance contract. The person that typed that stuff for the oyo state government doesn't know about the technology they presently use at all. Maybe he doesn't know that solar lamps use LED and not incandescent bulbs. I don't think blue camel has the right to criticize Oyo state government for failure to accept their project's proposal. The act is unprofessional and laced with envy. Using their account to tweet has exposed further their shameful act. It's like when a seller is accusing a customer or potential customer of not buying from his/her store. No be by force to buy na. Meanwhile, It amazes me how some people still hail the current government of Oyo state whose performance has been abysmal in all sectors. Everything in the state is static and depleting badly, from infrastructure, security, economic to basic amenities. Imagine using combustible ( fuel) to power street light when a remote village in Burkina Faso uses solar powered street light on their transport routes.
