gboss4sure: Nigerians must talk obata. It is an official visit don't other president travel on official visits?.

Infact there are so many paid haters of GEJ here that always criticise whateva he does. Soon una mouth go shut. Government Can't Stop Because Of Boko Haram.
Criticism of an underperforming President is Hating? Hmmn. I wonder what praise of an under achieving Presido is then? Butt licking? Doing your job? Being retarded?

Have a safe trip Presido. When you come back, try and do more of restructuring agencies and ministries. Sacking people and employing others to preside over the same rotten system will generate the same result. How about putting structures in place that makes it harder to steal the money, than arresting and prosecuting to no avail.

Nigerians need to stop bickering based on emotions. I thought it was men that overwhelm this Politics section?

Until someone can provide a tangible list of successes under GEJ's tenure, we, as Nigerians, have the right to criticize him constructively.

How do we know GEJ is failing as a leader? At the end of every year, he posts his accomplishments on Facebook. What he calls accomplishments are things we do not hold of great importance. He started a youth foundation and boasted of an increase in life expectancy in 2011. These aren't the kind of accomplishments we need to hear from a leader governing a nation, where the north is bombed every other day, where Nigerians make $1 and politicians are raking in millions, and where a vast majority of the nation has no electricity or clean drinking water. Who cares about life expectancy when people are bombed and shot at every day? When women are either losing their children shortly after birth, or dying in the birthing process? When roads are death traps?

No, GEJ shouldn't stop governing because of Boko Haram, but what GEJ is doing now cannot even be considered governing. Frequent trips abroad doesn't make you a president. That's more of tourism. This isn't the first time GEJ has traveled. Nothing has come of his prior trips, so why should anyone be optimistic now? Nigerians have a president who doesn't take action, apart from removing a fuel subsidy to feed his cronies, renaming a university, and then sacking officials and replacing them with people who are just as wayward. Strong, successful, effective leadership isn't accomplished by mouth but by action.

To remove a weed, don't pluck its leaves. Pull it from its roots. GEJ has been plucking leaves ever since.

We are funny in Nigeria. When we had a bed-ridden President(President Yar Adua) and got left-out in International politics we complained. Now, we have one who wants Nigeria noticed in World politics, we still complain. Who can argue that Nigeria was very visible in African and World politics during Obasanjos 8years - you just cant keep him to a small corner.Even combating terrorism is no longer a local affair. Its International dimension is even more important. Not now when Al quaoda is exporting terrorism to Nigeria. Any sensible President will go out to handle the International dimension. And i think thats exactly what Jonathan is doing. Its a step in the right direction.

You know very well that GEJ did not go to Brazil and Belgium because of terrorism. Any sensible president will remain in Nigeria and deal with his or her many problems in his nation before inviting overseas delegates to a nation in distress.

Bakreez: i know you are yet to be a victim of boko haram. I dont pray you are anyway but learn to talk like a concerned nigerian and stop displaying your level mediocrity.
It is you who will be a victim of Boko Haram. Maybe you will praise GEJ if he abandons all other aspects of government and governance to put his whole time, money, human and material resources to stop BH. The truth is that these merchants of terror want to distract government and ensure that the Govt is discredited and fails. Security is crucial but there's more to government than security. If our brothers in the North wish to make Nigeria ungovernable, they will at most, make the North ungovernable. The rest of Nigeria must move forward.

Spirit of Okija: Do you know if this trip will bring alot of benefits to Nigeria?!

While he handles domestic issues, do not forget that he still needs to tackle international issues as well.. Boko Haram cannot and I repeat cannot hold the nation hostage.. If he focuses on Boko Haram alone, 4 years would come and go and he would have achieved nothing.. He needs to still put up a front on the international scene and make sure Nigeria isnt left behind..
U're on point

uihebom: why can't Nigerians use their brains for something useful. The president told you dis b4, cos some people are throwing bombs here and there doesn't mean Nigeria should stop and focus on them.if he should focus on dem, what's the reason for having defense minister, army generals, police IG ,etc. Or do you think he is going to Belgium for his own good?(holiday). What's all dis rubbish. Bomb blast =Jonathan. plane crash =Jonathan. A mad man die under a tree its = Jonathan. No service in your phone = Jonathan. You your self what have you done to your community.
I see. And why does he need to travel when he has ambassadors? The reason why this country can nevar progress is because pple like you keep trying to excuse the ineptitude of our leaders and the sheer frivolity of their acts angry the president has Akamu for a brain! That we all know. Who flunks a thesis defence thrice huh? undecided

Let the dunce stay back home and fix our problems. All the solutions to all our problems lie within. Jonathan Jets Out On Another Jamboree To Belgium, Abandons Crucial ECOWAS Parley

President Goodluck Jonathan departed Abuja for Brussels today after the Federal Executive Council meeting, to deliver a speech at a Customs conference in Belgium.

Mr. Jonathan's trip is basically a jamboree organized by the Director of Customs, who reportedly bribed Jonathan's wife and his Chief of Staff, Mike Oghiadome, to ensure the President’s appearance at the event.

Last week, Mr. Jonathan was severely criticized by civil society activists and opposition groups, for leading a vast delegation of 116 officials and hangers-on to the Rio+20 conference in Brazil.

During his third presidential media chat last Sunday, Mr. Jonathan tried to rebut the criticisms, claiming that the widespread attacks in two States in which militants killed over 70 people was not enough reason to prevent him from that trip.

Sources told Saharareporters that this week’s Belgium jamboree will cost Nigeria its prime spot at the Economic Commission for West Africa (ECOWAS) table in Yamassoukro, Cote d’Ivoire. Mr. Jonathan was expected to be there to represent Nigeria to intervene in the political instability in Mali, where rebels have carved out a den for themselves in the north, and Guinea Bissau, where military bandits upstaged civilian power.

Nigeria, which has lost a lot of political respect in Africa, is leading a 9-nation committee to resolve the conflicts in those two countries. Instead, Mr. Jonathan opted to go to Brussels with no clear agenda. His large delegation includes Senators, governors, and sundry officials.

The Nigerian Customs Service is footing the bill of several attendees, including paying the first lady special estacodes for the nights she will be in Brussels.

Mrs. Jonathan will leave Brussels for the United States with 36 aides to attend to another jamboree: the First Lady's “Youth Infusion” Summit in Annapolis, Maryland.

The Summit is organized by a group in Maryland that is apparently outside the purview of UNESCO, although it is supported by a non-governmental organization called the UNESCO Center for Peace. The group’s website shows that only African first ladies from Ghana, Senegal, Liberia, Nigeria, Benin, Ethiopia, Gambia, Kenya, Sierra Leone have been invited.

Curiously, the organizers website -firstladysummit.org was registered and created only six months ago, in January 2012, and has largely pixelated photos of advisors that clearly have nothing to do with UNESCO.
