Generally speaking, Guyana is a poor country despite the country’s gold mines. The country has 3 main industries that employ the majority of educated and skilled Guyanese and outside of these industries, jobs for natives and immigrants are scarce. East Indians make up a portion of the population, both working and employing others in the country. Guyana isn’t the ideal place to ‘hustle’.

The good news is that recently, a large amount of oil has been discovered in Guyana making it the next hotspot for drilling. This could mean excellent opportunities for Nigerians with degrees AND experience in petroleum engineering. The best avenue is to research and apply to American companies that are drilling in Guyana for visa sponsorship.
