Russia spent $65.9b on its military last year in comparison. Most of their weaponry is Soviet era. The Soviet Union last existed is 1991 if I am correct.

Right now, Russia is using made in 1978 bondage in Ukraine, so she can still fight for another 40 years to get to the point where made in 2022 will be needed.

There was probably an Intel that foreign mercenaries(NATO armies) wanted to pass through Transnistra in Moldova to open another front just outside Russia. That was why the Russians fell back from the North in such haste, and has since then concentrated their campaign in the Eastern and Southern regions of Ukraine.
