If telling you the fact is hatred, then sorry I can't help you. I have no hatred for the Igbos. In fact, a good number of my friends, Ikenna, Uche, etc are Igbos but may be they have been enlightened by the Lagos life. They also agree with me on this.

No one is asking you to worship the traditional rulers, just follow the tradition. One of the reasons for NYSC is to expose you to culture and traditions of other people in other places, not for you to go their and insult their tradition.
