This is good, but I don't like the idea of them importing the fuel. It might make them loose focus from their core operations, which is the airline business. |

shaggy007:True that all countries have greedy people. That is why in saner countries the Government make anti-trust and other laws that prevent businesses from using their greed to harm the general populace. The anti-trust laws prevent forming of cabals and price fixing and prevent monopolies that are injurious to the society and common man. But in Nigeria the reverse is the case. Government encourage price fixing, cabals and monopolies that harm the public as long as necessary Government officials benefit. Imagine Mele Kyari defending private marketers on spurious pricing?! These are the same marketers that claim loses but are unable to provide cost price because it is all about corruption. |

Everything in Nigeria defies logic. This is probably the only place in the world where a private company is going on strike because of cost of raw material for their private business. All over the world, companies increase price of their service and goods if costs go up, they do not threaten people and government with strike because of the cost of fuel for their private business. I run my own business in UK, and I have been buying fuel at £1.65 (N1,260) per litre since last year. I think what the airlines are doing is just to force government to give them some subsidised fuel, but they are not going to reduce the price of their tickets anyway. Don't forget they have fixed minimum fare at 50k. And government have caved in, after heavy bribing of officials, who in actual fact have no powers to take such decision. |
