The Nigeran National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has stated that it will not fix the price of aviation fuel and has instead requested that airline operators apply for an import license for the fuel.
This was revealed by the Corporation’s Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, in a statement issued by the House of Representatives following their meeting on Monday with AON, GMD of the NNPC, and Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Because aviation fuel is a deregulated product, he believes it cannot have a fixed price.

“So you cannot hold to any price, and indeed, what you have seen in the media is a N700 reference point,” he said. It cannot serve as a point of reference. It is determined by market conditions. Depending on the market, it could be more than N700. This market is changing. It is currently linked to the price of crude oil.

“It is our responsibility to ensure that we intervene.” We did it. We brought in products in order to lower the price. We brought in cargo in March and April and made it available to the entire industry at N460.

Femi Gbajabiamila, the speaker of the House, said shutting airline operations could cripple the government.

He said, “We are at the precipice today in Nigeria. It is a crucial moment for us. There is a crisis at hand. The shutdown of airline operations has the potential of shutting down this government. We cannot sit here as stakeholders and fold our arms and watch this happen.

“I hope that the outcome of this meeting will usher in a lasting solution to these challenges of Jet A1 bearing in mind that there is a laissez-faire economy of demand and supply.

Are they concerned shutting down airlines will cripple the economy? No they're not, they're concerned it would affect their movements especially this critical election period.

They resolved aviation issues and didn't even allow them to embark on even '1 day' strike but our universities have been down for months and they don't care because their kids are either studying abroad or in private universities

I support nnpc on this the price should not and never be fixed... Fixing the price is creating another subsidy in the sector

You guys left petrol scarcity and subsidy matter to flight ?
Small flight people are enjoying since train and road traveling is no more safe.
Una don go hijack the price .
Just say u are working with bandits to get more food.

To travel within Nigeria is now very expensive

Those products are not deregulated. Its a racketeering case. Government still paying subsidy till date.

Let the airlines start bypassing their local suppliers and import themselves. Imagine how rich Dangote will be if he depends on PHCH to run his cement factories. Cement will sell higher than is currently sells and he will still end up less profit.
