How Do I Stayed Focused To Actualize My Dream Of Becoming Software Developer. by romeo411(m): 4:12pm On May 12, 2022
For 2yrs now, I have seriously wanted to transition from my job as a Civil Engineer to a Software Developer. It had been a dream even before going to study civil engineering but you know the Nigerian University admission system can be funny and tricky at the same time. Fast forward, I finished the course which is not a bad field of study in any way over ten years ago but the attraction to IT keeps getting stronger because I follow events and know where things are really happening. I have been doing some video tutorials and is like I am virtually vast in the terms and terminologies in web dev. Now, my issue is that I lack focus on doing the main thing which is being persistent in coding! And it happened that I don't have an option but to learn it because I just got an admission to a QUANT course, (MSc in Computational Finance) or what the university of Petersbourg in the US that offered me the admission calls Financial Engineering because coding is like a prerequisite as in most of the program involves modern computer languages like python, javascript, etc. In fact, the course is about fintech. Please I need solid advice and mentoring that will put me to shape in a short possible time. My post may not be incongruent with some of our thoughts here but I need advice and encouragement like a rookie in the field that i am

I don't know what you mean by focus but it basically mean you must find at least 2hrs maybe in five days in a week to practice a language patiently as days go by.
Where more confidence comes in is how do people use this programming languages and how to solve problems.
So you need to be on constant research, your question would never be answered in a day but you must continuously keep researching about them and asking them. then you will eventually get answers. cheers

My little trick, "Set up a workstation."
Though expensive, setting up work station would see you learn & work more efficiently. Even when you're watching a movie, you'd sometimes wanna get up and do something coding.

Where and how much did you buy the workstation setup

Just find a corner in your room, buy a mini laptop desk from a market nearby (you can also find it on jumia around 15-18k) get a swivel chair and set it up with little art decorations. Take a deep breath and grab your laptop.
This will isolate you from the other things around you, and all you would think of would be work oriented.
