Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State has narrated how Chibuike Amaechi, a former Rivers State Governor, rescued him from Department of State Services, DSS, detention.

Addressing Kaduna State delegates on Sunday, when Amaechi, who is one of the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential aspirants came to seek their support, El-Rufai said his wife has not and will never forget the role Amaechi played to save him from the jaws of the secret police.

He said even before this election period, Amaechi has been his wife’s favourite Nigerian for this particular gesture.

“One time the SSS wanted to arrest me, that I wrote something.

“Governor Amaechi called and said I will take you there and I will not leave until they let you go, what did you do?

“He took me there in his car and stayed there until they let me go. Till tomorrow, my wife will never forget that. Amaechi is her favourite Nigerian,” he said.

Many people believe that should Amaechi win the APC presidential primary and get the party’s sole ticket, he would pick Governor El-Rufai as his running mate.
