Have lived in calabar briefly is kind of funny to me now cos I know they won't sustain how clean their state is forever, but they really tried to pride themselves as the cleanest capital for years even the whole abj is still struggling to maintain a clean environs

And there's a leader in this state? Meaning that he's also a dirty person, he cares for his political ambition nothing more.
Selfish set of leaders!

There was power yesterday in the South, not yet in Municipal. I'm in PH though, a friend wrote a very long piece on Facebook to thank PHED.

The dirts, I can not say. It's a recent happening and it's quite pathetic. Calabar my Calabar!!

Good governance left Cross River State the day Donald Duke's tenure ended. Those who came after him (successors) are a bunch of jokers.

The problem is the people. .

Lots of dirty citizens who can't trash/disposal rubbish properly

The ones that got trashed properly, didn't get disposed on time, or regularly. So, what do you think will happen afterwards?

Folks like you still don't get it: Leadership Is Everything!
The same people you blame for not disposing refuse properly were there during Donald Duke's administration. Yet, the city was clean then.
What does that tell you? Responsible and proactive leadership.

It is something that cannot be hidden.

We don tire to talk abeg!

Let this unfortunate lying midget just finish his administration and go, so we can have a breath of fresh air.

Until then, Calabar remains a ghost town.

Donald Duke really made Calabar, a destination to look forward to but now, poor leadership has messed things up.

Blame who? Most of Nigeria's revenues are channelled up north through proliferation of too many states and local government councils in the old Northern region.
Nearly all the cities in the old Eastern region have similar problem.

It's a general thing across board...

I remember back then when Jerry Gana was the Minister of Information or so, there's a weekly contest of the cleanest city (state), and a prize awarded the winner.
This national orientation gave birth to many state's environmental protection agencies.

Governance has sadly been lowered now that such sanitation stuff don't mean shît to no leader!

Today, hardly do we have any state in the country with clean cities... Abi you know of any?

Leadership will remain the key to Development of any great nation.

Just look at the massive decline in a once enviable state after the departure of a single governor... 2 regimes since Duke left reduced Cross River to a cesspit.

Yet the people will rather sit around and wail, instead of taking to the streets in widespread protest! Some even support this idiot leading them.

I don't know between the useless leaders in Nigeria and the citizens who we can call worse.... SMH!

saintkeppy:
His Excellency, Donald Duke tried his best to keep Calabar Clean&Green, Street lighting @night, security & impressive nightlife among the residents in the city throughout his 8years(1999-2007) as Governor of Cross River State.
Donald Duke set up CUDA with the responsibility in taking care of the Calabar clty.
He replicated it in other major towns like Ugep, Ikom, Obudu&Ogoja.
Subsequent Governors who took over from him struggles to keep Cross River State on that level.

Calabar, indeed Cross River state became a destination of choice, which attracted tourists, businesses & investments to the state. Young school leavers picked UniCAL as their University of choice as a result of friendly& natural ambience Calabar city had to offer.
We all hoped & expect Prof. Ben Ayade to maintain the culture of cleanliness&orderliness Calabar was known for, but unfortunately he has performed poorly in this regard. Maybe a southern senatorial district(Calabar) Governor will do the needful in the next dispensation.
You're very correct. even though we were living in Calabar then. I had to choose the school, so I don't leave the environment. But now... Na only person weh get something serious deh stay the town... There's nothing there again
