"I have told you severally not to use that tone when talking to me", came a very vehement male voice.

"So, I shouldn't talk to you again, Chibuzor? How come everything I say these days is now wrong", a lady's voice responded, calmly.

At this, I turned to see a couple walking out of the mall.

I ignored their banter and focused on the ATM I was standing beside to withdraw money.

But because their car was parked close to the ATM, I could still hear their heated conversation.

"What did I now say that's getting you all worked up? Chi, I always know when you're lying to me", the lady continued.

"It's clear the beating you received last week didn't reset your brain.", Chibuzor retorted, now getting impatient.

"Do you love her? Just tell me, so I know..."

The lady hadn't finished speaking when I heard a loud bang and turned.

The guy had hit her with the nylon of groceries he was holding, and now littered over the floor were some of the goods they purchased.

As the lady cried holding her head where she was hit, Chibuzor replied brusquely:

"Get into the car, my friend, before I leave you here."

As she made to walk into the car, he muttered:

"Nonsense, you too want to talk, wait till we get home", and then hissed.

And that was when the "Taekwondo" inside of me came popping.

I somersaulted to where their car was, asked the lady to move to safety, and then asked the guy why he hit her.

He looked at the slim, almost frail lady standing before him and burst into hysterical laughter.

"You? Wonders shall never end. Women's emancipation 'odikwa' getting serious. So, what do you want to do about my hitting her?" Chibuzor taunted.

"I want you to apologize to her, now" I muttered.

At this juncture, a crowd of people had gathered and the man's wife joined and started placating that I ignored him.

As I stood imagining his audacity to hit a woman with a pack of groceries and the effrontery afterward to tell her to crawl into his car, I heard:

"I repeat what will you do if I don't?", Chibuzor's angry voice brought me back to reality.

"I will beat the hell out of you, and get heaven into you." came my very confident response.

"You will what? Chibuzor retorted, and charged at me.

Then, just then I smiled and rolled up my sleeves. Positioned my legs. Twisted my fists. and was about to shout "heeyahhhh", when I woke up.

Alas, it was a dream.

Story: Fiction.

Moral Lesson:

If you're a lady, consider learning how to fight Taekwondo, for it could be a form of self-defense.

You never can tell when you'll need it in the dream or life.

Ok o. I go in peace.

lol, i can't believe i thought that was real.
Anyways, i too wanted to learn how to fight so i could defend myself. During my research, i came across a thread on reddit talking about how to fight, i think the person that opened wanted to know how to fight and was asking for tips. and i was shocked at was reading.
Martial artists, soldiers, people who know the street, all saying the same thing, this best thing for you to do is to avoid a fight. However, if you were to enter into a fight, your goal is to kill, yes, that's what they wrote. forget about what you see on tv, don't use your hand, it's ineffective, find the nearest object, even if it's a knife, take it and stab. If you have no choice but to use hands, go for the weak spots (groin, nose, eyes). Your goal in a fight is survival, not winning, and if you enter a fight, you put your life on the line, so end the fight as soon as possible, by end kill and severely injure so that you can run, and run away fast.
i like some people were shocked, people that understood supported such statements, this is life not movies. At the end of the day, the best thing is to avoid, better to be insulted than to lose an eye. So be warned, fighting kills.

Hahahahahahahaa.
Thank you for your thoughts. Well appreciated. I guess my thought is in line with domestic abuse especially between couples. If wives learn how to self-defend, who knows, .it could help husbands who often lose it to stay in line.

I once heard of a story where a man who was fond of beating he wife was accosted by the woman's brother who was a soldier and best the living day light out of him. That became the last time the couple ever had a physical fight.

i heard a similar story, but it was a female friend of the wife that beat the husband, don't know if they stopped fighting after that. Guess that goes to show, anything can happen.

Nice writing, if was creative.

I don't think it is a bad idea for an individual (male/female) to take a basic self-defense course in martial arts. However, I think it could be counterproductive if the individual is not disciplined. I know a martial artist who hit his wife in a terrible spot during a fight and she developed a heart condition afterwards.

No. But boxing definitely offers viable self-defense. Judo has value too.

That said, while self-defense is good, it's not a solution to this problem.
