to reiterate - the way that phone is presented - i am forced to wonder if the poster is indeed the owner, or a person actually authorised by the owner to sell it

you should have some level of paranoia buying a used phone, particularly when you are buying on a platform that does not constitute a traceable business

neither the background, nor the seller present as the possible owner/user of a N450k+ phone
if like so many other devices sold here, the phone was presented as switched off and outrightly for sale i would not be commenting

as it is i have to wonder, and anyone buying too should wonder -what is the actual source of the phone

be advised that however sloppy one thinks naija police are, when they are motivated, there can be real trouble

people have been arrested for buying phones that turned out to be taken from kidnap victims
the killers of cynthia okusogu sold her BB and police traced it to a buyer in PH
a person's galaxy was fixed with the chip from a stolen galaxy phone and police came knocking

a stolen phone can be traced and the buyer can end up in a world of trouble if the owner has the resources to push for its recovery.

I've put up an ad here, a lady messaged me on whatsapp, told me she came across my ad here and that she's interested, we agreed for the price and waybill (iam in PH and she's in Lagos). She transferred part of the money to me (the item were 2nos venetian blinds). It was remaining 1k, she said untill I waybill. I decided to do the waybill since she trusted me with her cash, she confirmed receipt of the blinds but never sent the balance of 1k. People can be really weird. I don't know her Nairaland moniker because she never quoted my ad.

Sometimes when someone says they are selling a device you look carefully at the person selling. Because you want to be sure it is the actual owner selling the item. Or a person who has the money to buy and sell. That is also what KYC is about.

Look at the pictures of different laptops, phones etc shown on this platform.

It is usually in some kind of showroom or a neat looking room.

Now look at the area behind the phone. A very rough, unpainted fence. Bare ground, no concrete, no paving stones.

I look at all that and I see a seller who may not have the resources to legitimately aquire the device he /she is selling.

Even here most people who are selling phones etc, you see a background of floor tiles or something of that nature.

You have to also wonder, why is the phone not already wiped?

Anyways this is just me. It may be nothing but a seller who does not know how to do small packaging or it may be a seller who is helping someone else move dodgy goods.

It is always for the buyer to do due diligence and risk assessment.
