The officers told the reporter that he could be a spy pretending to be a journalist.

Some police officers have allegedly attacked a BBC journalist who was covering the suspended sit-at-home order at Cemetery Market, Aba, Abia State

Now you have it! These are the same security agents enforcing the sit-at-home in order to blame IPOB/ESN.

To face gunmen una nor fit.. You guys even observe sit at home yet you harass a journalist performing his lawful duty..

Chapter4. Section 39 of the 1999 constitution guarantees freedom of expression and of the press..

The freedoms, liberties, and fundamental rights of citizens are not at the whims and caprices of security operatives or of the government they purport to work for..

U say even police observed the sit at home by UGM

I wasn't expecting better from the zooo police; what does the zooo police know about journalism and professionalism
I wouldn't blaim the officers..they did the right thing..during many of these sit at home some Ipob members / sympathizers do come out to video the situation on ground.. probably to inform UGM if the sit at home aren't fully obey so that they can raid...like we have always seen

The important thing was the reporter carry his proper ID card... or even wearing a PRESS vest..

If not then the police have every full right to engage and arrest him as a suspect ..
It not enough to shout ..am a BBC correspondent

was he wearing his official @BBC Id, and a journalism vest and all other things that should indicate ur a journalist of such a high correspondence as the BBC, but u know what people do when covering footage especially Nigerian Journalist, if he's hausa u would see him in his aboki upandan or igbo with
Isiagu with hisHuge Canon camera videoing nonsense and even directly at uniformed men, Thats not how u report news, the journalist should look at people like Amanpour, Eilbar CNN senior war correspondent and the other girl how they dress, fit in, in the environment they are covering at the same time, making sure they look like reporters, But sowie o for the abuse, he has look he's working for the BBC, if he was working for he would be in jail for 8days b4 he's even attended to!

Re: Police Officers Attack BBC Journalist Covering IPOB Sit-at-home by onuman: 10:20pm On May 19, 2022
A particular ethnic group in Nigeria is running berserk over possible restoration of Biafra.

The ethnic group believes that crude oil and gas deposits are all there is for a country to survive.

The ethnic group has changed international standard on treatment of
self-determination groups, when it stealthily declared IPOB a terrorist organisation.

The whole country is aware of the security situation in the east. We have a group of cannibalistic terrorists killing police officers and feeding on their flesh. I really can't blame the useless police for their actions

After using its loyal military dictators to restructure Nigeria politically between
1967-1970, and assign excess political and economic advantages to
Fulani-led Arewa north of Nigeria, Nigeria has arrived a stage where any body who talks about Biafra or Oduduwa gets imprisoned or shot by Fulani-led armed forces of Nigeria.

They have concluded plans to make Atiku Abubakar succeed President Buhari in order to further entrench the cultures of inequality and waste of human lives in Nigeria.
