Good Evening NL's.

Pls I need your input regarding this matter. Is it possible for a graduate with a very good result to want to settle for less if truly nothing is wrong somewhere?

Here is the story,

Nearly a week ago, a guy came to a business centre where I work to draft his CV and print some of his credentials, his First Degree Certificate and SSCE result precisely.

Immediately, I began to draft the CV, asked some things about him that's needed to be on the CV. We then got to the Education section, asked him the name of the Institution attended, Course of study, and his Grade stylishly because his response to the most of the things asked lacks intelligibility and he did.

To my utmost surprise he finished with a first class from one of State owned varsities in the south west.

Alot of questions raced through my mind Did he buy this result? Is First class that easy in State owned varsities? ... During the CV drafting, He told me to just help him draft anyhow that a page is okay, that if not for his wife pestering him to look for a job he won't be stressing himself. This person only targets schools and tutorials knowing fully well how most private schools pay ridiculously low salaries to their staffs.

I was so vexed one particular day, when he narrated his ordeal at one Tutorial centre, how he was offered 300NGN per hour to teach. I blamed him for going to such place with his result.

Today, was going through my gallery, then I saw some of the credentials he sent to me on WhatsApp, looked at the credentials for some minutes especially the First degree, I have compassion on him because of his excellent academic performance. But one thing caught my attention, the grade written on the certificate was FIRST CLASS (UPPER DIVISION) instead of FIRST CLASS HONOURS.

Less I forget, He has no NYSC Discharge Certificate and he did full time programme and also finished schooling before 30.

Pls graduate in the house, is the result genuine? or the mistake is from the school or Do any First class graduate in the house has his/her grade written like this (FIRST CLASS UPPER DIVISION) on his/her Certificate?

First Class Honours (1st, 1 or I) – typically 70% or higher
Second Class Honours;
Upper division (2:1, 2i or II-1) – typically 60–69%
Lower division (2:2, 2ii or II-2) – typically 50–59%
Third Class Honours (3rd, 3 or III) – typically 40–49%
Students who do not achieve honours may be awarded an ordinary degree, sometimes known as a 'pass'. Ordinary degrees, and other exit awards such as the Diploma of Higher Education (DipHE; for completing the first two years of a degree course) and Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE; for completing a degree course), may be unclassified (pass/fail) or, particularly in Scotland where the ordinary degree is offered as a qualification in its own right, classified into pass, merit and distinction.

This one na Oluwole boyz handiwork grin
Unfortunately, he is an uninformed personality not to have spotted that silly mistake.

The only class of degree that has lower & Upper division is Second Class.
That is (2.1)&(2.2)

FIRST CLASS is in a class of it own, it doesn't have any division or share any GLORY with any average student. grin &it requires a CGPA of atleast 4.5 on a 5point scale to earn it.

That result is a scam, nothing like that. wink

I'll suggest you call his attention to it, so that he can re-edit it before he embarrasses himself further. Infact, let him forget about First class entirely & go for something lower before he exposes himself grin

I understand your point but giving First class to Dick and Harry is unheard of.

The way the grade was written raised suspicion that the result was doctored.

I applied for a programme recently and I came across that. I think degree title varies from school to school, country to country and AME to BRE standards.

As for NYSC and jobs for the guy, maybe he is not serious about getting rich. He just want to feed and afford basic things. This can be due to so many factors. I think.

That result look doctored because it should be political science in social sciences and again no school would make this kind of mistake.

That certificate is for a Nigerian University and it is obviously doctored. The person that worked on the certificate most likely used a Second Class (Upper Division) as a template!
