Gptech:

Half engine for 1.8kva is currently far above 20k let alone for 2.5kva. Better to count your loss and get a new generator before dem take you shine again.
Thank you sir. I will follow your advice

Good evening prof and all other experienced fellow here.

Just need a sincere advice to my question.

My Gen(Lutian 2.5kva) has developed all kinds of engine related problems thereby giving me an impression of wasting money in terms of repairs. Ots either valve today, or carburettor. Currently it shortens oil and I have been consistently repairing it even after ringing it months ago.

A street GEN engineer(repairer) wants to sell an half engine to me for 20k. He said the engine was removed out of a GEN with bad coil.

Should I risk buying the half engine from him or I rather buy tokunbo(new engine) or I rather safe up expediently for a new GEN.

Note; my current GEN coil has not been worked on before safe changing of AVR and brush sometimes ago.
if you want to buy half engine,go to the market and buy it brand new and give yourself some peace of mind which you deserve after the stress of fixing and repairing

When it arrives, call the customer service again to confirm the serial number.

Thanks sir. Do you mean the SKU number here? And is it something I should do before the dispatch person leaves?

Thanks

Hello Professionals in the house ! Please the recommended oil for Firman Eco49990Es i bought recently is 10w - 30. I saw products like mobil, prime guard and prime guard premium on jumia. Mobli is pretty pricey. Please is prime guard a good oil? You can as well recommend alternatives.

Thanks

Please, in the addition, the Eco49990es fuel consumption is quite high. How do i reduce it?

you must have abused the gen, and being economical with the truth...your engine needs an overhaul, and based on the skill of the local repairmen, the gen will never be the same again.......compare cost of the overhaul vs buying a new gen...and make an informed decision

what kills gens
1. overloading the gen
2. not maintaining good oil change intervals
3. using fake/substandard oil
4. not replacing the oil after running for 10 to 20hrs on first use--when you bought the gen new.

in your case, likely items 2 to 4

2— what’s a good oil changing interval based on hours. Generator doesn’t take much load, an SPG3000 powering a table side fridge, fan and charges laptop and max 5 phones?

3— what’s are your standard oil products that you can suggest. I’m currently using SEAHORSE.

Oil change should be between 60-100 hours max. Assuming oil standards are same, you should be looking at SAE 10w-30 or 20W-50. The former is really pricey. You can go for either Mobil or Total.

How long does a particular litre of fuel last you? What do you normally power with it?

Its not just about the name, the weight and Api value are more important. You can go for Total 20w-50.

check your manual...oil change interval is specified there...its usually in run hours,
visco 2000 is the oil I prefer, its reddish in color. seahorse may be ok ,, don't know. just try and change the oil as per the change interval recommended by the manufacturer. 20w 50 is the grade of oil recommended by most gen manufacturers, using a thinner oil 0w 30, will result in shortages

We thought so too
But thank God all jas been sorted now
The problem has always been the house... it's actually a big family house with various flats, most of the flats are under lock cos the occupants are outside the country and the generator connection was done to power the whole house
So using same connection, it's either the connection developed fault or there's an appliance that is turned on that we don't know about
So right now we installed our own separate connection for the gen in our flat and it's working perfectly fine
Thanks all for your suggestions
nwaozzugwor:

Yes...is from the factory..

But the issue is the small coil also called ametur...once bad...it will also damage the AVR

Please is there any repercussion if I use a 20w 50 oil for a generator that recommended 10w 30?

Sorted
Thanks
We did a different connection for our flat alone against the general connection we were using before

Alternatively, take your gen to your neighbor that has gen and try it in their house. Good luck.

first of all, for you to buy a generator with acclaimed 4.5kva but with actual 2.5kva tells you that it's a fake something. Anything else can be wrong with the generator.

To confirm if it's from your house, borrow another generator and use it to power your house

I am yet to unbox it. So I don't know the recommended oil type to by. That's why I asked the above question? I need to set it up today

yes, you will ruin the engine over time, 20w 50 is thicker than 10w 30....so will not be able to lubricate the engine effectively, as its too thick to enter the tight spaces inside the engine, until after about 15minutes when the engine has warmed up...this is lead to metal to metal contact inside the engine with resultant production of metal shavings...and loss of compression, ultimately the gen will start smoking and stop being able to carry load ...........

stick to what the manufacture recommends, this advice applies to cars as well

the problem with non synthetic oil is that it starts degrading immediately you start using it. so even if you use it for 3hrs and leave the gen unused for next 30days, the oil has started going bad already.
if you check your manual, The OCI -oil change interval, should be for eg 10hrs/15 days---which ever comes first

synthetic oil doesn't hv this issue...but synthetic oil usually comes in thinner grades --0w -30, 10w-30 etc

Unbox and check the manual, recommended oil will likely be 20W-50.
Check under the gen around the engine block to get the engine number , that's what the customer care people should check.

Yes I did. It's 20W-50 that was recommended. I bought Total as I couldn't get Mobil around. Is it okay to continue with Mobil later on?

The engine start isn't working. I am not sure if I'm doing something wrong. I had to manual start before it came up. What could be the issue?
