Hi Nairalanders, please I need help. This started sometimes in 2005 or thereabout. At first I thought it’s normal because then, any little thing irritates me and I had to spit. I was in senior secondary school then. If someone farted in class or I saw something irritating, I won’t be able to swallow my saliva, I would have to spit. Now I’m 35 and this has gotten worse. Now I spit often without seeing anything irritating.

At first, I thought I’m the only one with this ‘disease’ until I met someone in 2013 who spits often too. I later met 2 other guys who spits at least 5 times in 10 mins. This is becoming embarrassing to me and it has made me to always stay indoors.

I have tried a couple of things, I dewormed every week in 2018. Nothing change. I did it again in 2021 I even took overdose of worm medicines. I went to the private hospital I use and the doctor had no idea of what might be wrong with me, he gave me a letter of referral to General hospital. I went to the General hospital, no solution too. The doctor said I need to control my mind. And take back the saliva whenever it’s gathering in my mouth, trust me I do it always but the saliva will keep coming back until I spit it out. In less than 10 mins another will come. I’m tired, I’m literally tired.

Please help. If you have seen someone who had the same problem and has been healed now please kindly refer me to the person. I seriously need help. Thank you.

I know it will be extremely embarrassing but look on the bright side, you have life and this is not a life threatening condition.

it's not a medical condition, it's just a bad habit he picked-up right from a very young age.
my elder sister was also passing through the same bullshit when she was in secondary school, just spitting anyhow like she was stupid.
it took months of correction, scolding & advising her why it's wrong & disgusting to be doing that as a lady till she eventually stopped it.
at this age, i'm afraid the O.P would find it really difficult stopping it, unless he can stop thinking of saliva just like the wise guy above suggested.

I stay on mainland, Lagos

Reduce your water/fluid intake and see if it helps. If you are dehydrated, I do not think your body can produce saliva often. Also chew on bitter stuffs, like bitter kola, kola nut and bitter leaf. Reduce your salt intake. Too much salt traps water/fluid in your body longer than required.

And the final solution I have for you. Start smoking some good weed!! Let’s see if your throat and lungs will not start begging you to swallow the saliva instead of spitting.

All these advise I gave are more practical than dozing on drugs that don’t work.

U can buy packet of mentos or other sweets. Lick dem everytime it will help you

I take a lot of water. I can’t do without at least a sachet of water in 2 hours. I don’t smoke. I need a lasting solution.

I was like that before until one elderly woman told me one day that the day they will use my spit for rituals that is when I will stop spitting.. that fear the woman which is our Neighbour create in me made me stop automatically.. I started by choosing where to spit before I knew it I automatically stopped... so do it manually or re-configure urself always learn to swallow ur spit as they come if you can do that, your system will be used to it..

Bro, trust me I swallow as much as possible but it will keep coming back unless I go and spit it out. I swallow my saliva almost every minute

This almost happened to me during my second pregnancy, wanted to spit like others do. Well I did it that day twice, I asked myself if I was foolish and the spitting stopped. Keep swallowing the saliva till it stops on its own.

Op you can also try bitter cola or chewing gum for few weeks.

The do exercise or better still go herbal then compliment it with hospital for check up.
