Either way, it’s a win win for the northerners. Regardless of who the APC aspirant is, it’s very likely PDP will win the next presidential election. For example, the northerners will not vote for GEJ even if he becomes the flagbearer. If APC fields BAT, Nigerians are tired of APC’s failure and will definitely prefer another party at this time. APC must choose their presidential candidate wisely, considering what is happening in the rival PDD's camp. PDP is likely to choose a vice from SE in order to boost their support. If APC choose Tinubu who is a Southern Muslim, which means they will have to choose a Christian from the North. Getting a Northern Christian will not be as easy will be difficult in APC. Alternatively, APC can choose Osinbajo who is a Christian Southern, and choose vice that will be Northern Muslim. That might be more easier to archieve. Whatever APC is doing, they must realise the fact that the next presidential election will be a thug of war.

Buhari can't support Atiku. They are of different political parties, among other critical reasons.

Buhari will ensure APC fields a candidate from the same region as Atiku, most likely Ahmad Lawan, to contest votes with him in the Northeast, while he (Buhari) influences his region (the Northwest) to deliver bulk votes for Lawan.

APC will likely pick her VP (Ogbonnaya Onu) from the Southeast to try to woo Ndigbo back to power since Alex Ekwueme's vice presidency of 1983.

As a matter of fact, the NE is the most marginalized in terms of power sharing, followed by the Southeast.

So, it is a done deal. Lawan is superior to Atiku, especially in terms of considerations of age and public perception.

Lawan is, most likely, Nigeria's next president.
